I’m getting nervous about school because of delta

You can help by making sure your 12+ is vaxxed and helping your child get comfortable with a well fitted two layer mask with a filter or KN95 or KF94.

We remain in constant contact with health authorities and do not anticipate going virtual as a school system. Temporary classroom and individual schools May move to DL, but this will call be made sparingly, for as short a period of time as possible, and under the following circumstances: (insert rationale science).

We understand that this is a scary situation for many. But we are monitoring closely and taking reasonable precautions. We look forward to seeing your child 8/23.

But we have reactive leadership. So, this note will never happen.

I know! It would reassure me and I am a teacher. I hate last minute plans or information.

What is it that you need reassurance is about after the 1 million staff meetings last year and the 2 million emails from the county? Did you not see the email sent last week about wearing masks, encouraging vaccinations, etc.

Try the FCPS website or Facebook or Twitter, they've essentially said these things.

Yes. They’ve “essentially” said this. But a 29 page thread says parents are getting anxious. If they want to convince parents they are on it and taking it seriously (rather than hanging at the beach), they need to address it head on.

That FCPS has a plan for delta and is on the ball. In a normal year, whatever. But they dropped have dropped the ball so many times in the last 18 months. Starting with the Great BB Meltdown of 2020, continuing on to hybrid for everyone who wants it in August— oops, we mean April, etc., etc. They aren’t addressing delta specifically and CDC guidance changes. Silence. And when there is silence, worried parents wonder— are they on it, or not? Are they updating quarantining? Working on using CARES Act money to make sure kids and teachers have good PPE? Looking a contingencies for quarantined classrooms? Fact is, things look different than they did in late June. If FCPS is adjusting and planning, great. But, how many of us trust that they are?

The fact the SB is on vacay until 8/26 isn’t helping.

Actually helping greatly. Don't need them to meddle.

If you don’t want an update and reassurance, great. But lots of parents and teachers on here are saying— is gatehouse adapting with new facts about COVID? Or are they are the beach taking me time? Given how the last year has gone, many of us suspect the later.

They do have a okan. It's to open schools with masks and everything else normal until and if kids and teachers start dropping like flies. Not sure what else you want to hear? They have a plan, now it's up to principals to start implementing their individual school set ups.

There are school districts in the south that were open ALL of last year that are now being forced to go virtual. Delta is different.

Francis Collins yesterday:

"This is really a different virus than last year, and everything we learned about COVID a year ago, you got to sort of hit the reset button on now how we need to react to it," Collins said.”

Where is the reset button FCPS???

^^^. This person: (1) needs to remember there is low vaccination and no masking in these states, (2) needs a Xanax, and (3) needs some reassurance from FCPS

All the guidance is on the FCPS website, where it's been for the past year and a half. https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/return-school-safety

Now, it truly is up to the principals right now to see what they can and cannot do.

Let me make it really simple for you, they are not adjusting or creating a new plan for Delta. They will just "continually monitor the statistics."

LA County has announced mandatory weekly Covid tests for all students and staff.

Here is their detailed plan:

Our fully-vaccinated rate in Fairfax County (55%) is not all that different from Florida (48%).

Horrible plan. They’ll just be alternating lock downs for a bunch of asymptomatic cases. Have to learn with this

THIS sounds like a contact tracing plan! Far cry from what we are doing here.

What happens if an employee or student tests positive for the virus?
An employee or student who tests positive will receive a link to view their test result via text and email, along with instructions to isolate immediately. The district’s Community Engagement Team will call the individual the same day to provide isolation instructions. The team will also contact household members, coworkers and students who may have been in contact with the individual who tested positive to provide quarantine instructions and refer them for a COVID-19 test site. Details of the case and the list of those exposed will be referred to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health which may conduct further contact tracing.
