Seems reasonable for Maret to at least try to renew the lease; it's been ten years and this is the first stink that's been made of it. Exclusive use may be unreasonable at this point, but to say they cant use it at all without a plan for maintaining it is hypocritical.

They can use it on some Wednesday’s for 2 hours. What’s good for the goose... |
You can't blame Maret for looking out for Maret. But the DC government should look out for DC kids. Call the mayor. |
Huh? The role of the DC government is to look out for the tesidents' intetest, not to guarantee facilities for private schools. Maret willingly entered into a deal where they had no guarantees after the initial term. Renewal is not in the city's I.retest. |
In fact it's being replaced right now, even though it probably still had some life in it. |
Parent of a kid who plays for a school that plays Maret. No, you are wrong. |
All that money Maret has spent on Jelleff and they couldn't figure out a way to make more field space on their campus or closer by?
It's a joke that athletes at an expensive private school routinely have "home games" there. It's amazing that any athletes choose to attend that place. |
Can someone provide the following:
1) Total $ spent by DC on Jelleff fields by year 2) Total $ Spent by Maret on Jelleff fields by year 3) Key excerpts from any written agreements between DC and Maret 4) Actual use of the field by Maret by day (2018, 2019) |
Maret kids need a practice. Outrageous— my parents pay taxes just like others so it’s reasonable to get field space—- just like any other school!!!! |
#3 & #4 has already been provided in this thread, in the 2010 agreement. |
Well said. The Post’s coverage of this is shameful. Late to the dance, offers nothing new and seems to have a tone that infers it’s supportive of Maret. Lazy and biased. |
You and all your exclamation points are ridiculous. Go away. The adults are talking. |
#1 & #2 are irrelevant. For the past, they had a deal; presumably contractual terms were met and benefits received. For the future, either entity is capable of maintaining the fields. |
You can have field access equal to what Hardy gets. Fair? |
That would require that Hardy + DCPS contract with DPR for a permit to use the fields. Have they done this? And has the BGC requested a permit (even one that starts at say 5 pm). Don’t most people realize that the majority of permitted field use at Jelleff is for private organizations. It’s not a public place - it’s quasi-public and has been for the past decade. For crying out loud, it’s the hardest field to get on - you can’t just walk up and use it. And remember, there are children involved here and you may not like how this has unfolded but leave the kids out of this and don’t dare tell the Maret kid who lives in SE and is on full financial aid and out there for practice one hour a day he or she is privileged. |
