So it looks like USA has to put pressure on Israel to stop bombing in order to open the Strait. This should be interesting.
I’m all for it. As long as Bibi is in control, we have to cut off Israel.

I still don't understand why Republicans want this war with Iran. There was a perfectly good deal under Obama that constrained Iran's nuclear program and kept the Strait of Hormuz open for everyone. Every war plan and gaming exercise started with the assumption that Iran would seize control of Hormuz and take control of 20 percent of the world's oil and gas. That's rudimentary geopolitics. So why start a war at all when the US already had everything they wanted under Obama - free passage and no nukes for Iran. And now there is zero change Iran is going to give up control of Hormuz and abstain from pursuing nuclear weapons.

So what was the point? The US - and the world - is the huge strategic loser here. Are Republicans just dumbasses? Are Republicans all servile to Israel, which wants chaos in the Middle East? For America's interests, this may be the dumbest war in modern history.

+1 Israel and Netanyahu specifically continue to benefit politically from this war while no one else does. If they can’t agree to stop bombing they are the problem.

If it's not for America's interests but for some other interests then I guess it makes sense.

The point is backing Trump. If they don't, they're attacked. There is no reason that makes sense. It's their show of loyalty.

Bibi has been lobbying American presidents since Clinton to attack Iran saying they will have nuclear weapons in few years.
He convinced Trump if we drop huge amounts and fast the government will collapse and you will be a hero.

Hillary wanted war with Iran as well or at least she said so in 2008, but then she als worked on the JCPOA as Sec of State. That deal was honestly the best thing going to defang Iran and at least monitor their nuclear enrichment. Thanks to Netanyahu’s clumsiness, the deal is no more and Iran if they’re smart (and they are) will now definitely see to it that they become nuclear armed. They wouldn’t be at war right now if they were

In the long run, I only see mass exodus and bad days ahead for Israel. They are really underplaying the damage in Israel to not freak out the population but eventually, the right wing Vs left wing conflict in the Middle East will bear its wings and the US political landscape will change dramatically in 2028 that pro Israel candidate may be a red line for voters. Netanyahu is causing generational tears and I don’t see how it can repaired unless drastic measures are taken like ruining democracy in America and Israel in favor of autocracy and I don’t put it past him to want this. Trump wants to run again in 2028 and at a Jewish Hanukah event at the White House, Mariam Adelson (his biggest Jewish donor) also repeated this “joke”

Israel also didn’t have a problem with this same Iranian government back in the 1980s when they and some republicans in the Reagan admin helped arm Iran illegally via Iran contra.

At the time, Israel considered Saddam the biggest threat and Saddam was secular not an Islamic government. Whoever is a charismatic leader with friendships in the West and championing Palestinian rights is a threat to Israel. Gamal Abdel Nasswr was a secular president of Egypt in the 1960s and switched from USSR to pro America right before the 1967 USS liberty attack where Israel pretended to be Egypt and attacked a US ship.

We need to sanction Israel. This idea that they give a shit about religious regimes and liberalizing people is Bs because they hated the secular governments too (Egypt, Iraq, Libya). In fact, the only ones they like are the real regimes like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait. They don’t hold any elections or even have presidents like Iran.
