Common baby names you dislike

Ones that make me cringe are what sound to me like 70's names (although most of these are not used now):

Michelle
Jennifer
Dawn
Rhonda
Cheryl

I think I just made myself gag. lol

For whatever reason, the vast majority of "K" names for girls are really unappealing to me (i.e. Kaylee, Kaelyn, Kayla, Kaliyah, etc.).

Hunter, Archer, Pointer, Gunnar, Marcher, Ryder, Parker, Loker, Keyvan, Wyatt (I know 6 Wyatt's born this year), Gavin, Logan, Preston, Auburn, Asher, Niles, Todd, Mason, Blake, Jaden

All boy names, all born within the past 36 months in the metro area. All make me cry for these poor boys.

Agree with 18:28, all those "K" names and any others that seem like concoctions (part of this name, part of that name), are unappealing to me.

I also hate the -aden names for either gender, as you might have gathered. I've always hated the names Bertha, Ursula, Beryl, and any of the McK- names.

For the record, my name is Audrey, and I am of German descent, which appears in my middle name, Lore (short for Hannelore, oma's name). I was really surprised to see both names on here only once since they're kinda old lady names. Also, if I have a daughter, I want to name her Moira Ardith (surprised I didn't see those either), and a son will be Kieran Brett (I love the name Kieran because it's got the same roots as the name Cernunnos...good to hear he'll be a good drinking buddy, too!). I'm stuck on Moira because of the Greek Moirae, and I've just always loved the name (fortunately my husband does, too).

Okay Audrey Lore "hater of the *aden* names",

Lore? Really I'm German, also. My Oma was named Willehmina. Your parents Americanized Hannelore to Lore, yet you are bitching about "aden" names. Pot meet Kettle.....

Kieran is just as bad if not worse as Braden, Jaden, Aiden, Taden, Caden, ect. It's a true Irish name that lots of Irish people use, but a German person complaining about other perfectly good names picking such an oddball name. Wow.

And Moira Ardith? Wha? You hate McK names, I'm assuming McKenna would be one of those? McKenna sounds 1000xs more normal than Moira Ardith.

Now, I find that your taste in names is *your* taste in names, not mine. So why rip on OTHER people's taste in names? Just because YOU want to name your children oddball names that you find perfectly beautiful doesn't mean that everyone else thinks those names are lovely, just like you don't find the "ADEN" names lovely while some other people obviously do.

Why are we so judgmental of what others name their children, give it a rest people. And FYI, it isn't the kids that are making fun of their peers' names on the playground, it's the parents (us!) who are the shit-talkers. See: the entire Internet.

This thread is "common baby names you dislike". Disliking certain names is what the thread is about. I think most people understand that.

Audrey Lore, Hater of the Ages here.

Thanks to the final poster, who gets the point of this thread. See, I posted my future kid names, too, and people hate them, thus living up to the purpose of these posts. No harm done! Just thought it was an interesting thread, is all.

Also, I'm not sure where it's written that we have to name our kids something from our own ethnicity only, especially people like me who are half-German and half-White American Mutt (mom is Welsh, Irish, and English, but her family has been in the US since the early 1800s so I don't consider myself any of those). Husband is also a White American Mutt with slightly more recent ties to Ireland. Like any other parent, I like to put thought into the names I give my kid because I want the name to fit just as well on a child as an adult. They can totally change it someday if they hate it.

I also understand not liking Moira...seems to be a love it or hate it deal. Never heard anyone else say it reminds them of a cow! I usually get "imagine an old lady from the Bronx saying it, MOYYY rah". Too awesome...I'll have to call her my little MooMoo or something

Too funny. I met a woman in Ireland named Moira and everyone called her MooMoo!

Tried never to go by Liz and my sister Margaret goes by Mags or Maggie. My aunt Ann, yep, she's old and boring. My cousin Martha on the other hand, she's in her early 20's and wild, but not out of control.

I like Maggie, but that response just made me laugh!

Ok, I get this is the thread on names we dislike. But you need some help if you consume your time researching why people name their kids names you don't like!

Signed, mother of a boy with a middle name of Braeden, that has NEVER met another Brayden/Braeden, only knows one Aiden, and no Jaydens, and that likes the name because one translation is "Brave".

Really, you've never met another Brayden or a Jayden? Those (along with Aiden) are very popular names -- no judgment, my kids have popular names, too (different ones, though).

I used the name Dawn for my daughter's middle name...I fully admit to being a little into hippy-dippy names. I would absolutely use April or Autumn as a first name, and possibly even Spring.

I agree with the PP on the K names. One of my facebook friend's used Khloe - what is she, a Kardashian? And then Jewel named her baby Kase - seriously? Stop the insanity.
