This thread is "common baby names you dislike". Disliking certain names is what the thread is about. I think most people understand that. |

Gotta agree with others that Aiden variations are terrible. I don't mind Aiden but the fake variations (braydon etc) are just awful. They're like the male equivalent of female stripper names.
My son's name made the list just once. DD's name didn't. I think it is unusual but it is really a name you either love or hate. As for all the ethnic naming posts, we mixed our names up according to our ethnic backgrounds. DH is from South America. DS has an WASPy first name with a very Italian middle name. DD's first name is Greek (although we aren't, we couldn't find another name) and has a very, very Spanish middle name. |

The only thing more obnoxious than the Aiden/Jayden/Brayden/Kayden/Hayden names are those names with alternative spellings.
"Hey, I have an Aiden. But MINE is special because we spell it Ay'dhen." Give. me. a. break. |
|
I also wanted to name my kid Moira
But it rhimes with Koira and that means a dog in my native language |
Wow! It took until page 9 for someone to say Ashley? I'm impressed. Signed, An Ashley that has never been a stripper or white trash |
|
I wanted to name my first born Mia, but in my native language is the sound a cat makes. As in the cat "mia".
That being said I hate names like Walker, Hunter, Turner... It annoys me a lot. |
| * it is the sound... |
| Jace seems to be making the rounds lately. |
| I'm Irish and Welsh and my husband is of Russian extraction. All of our ancestors' names can't be pronounced properly. That's why we went with a good old solid Anglo name for our DS. Naming the kid something along the lines of Llywellyn Smirnov would have been just cruel. |
Audrey Lore, Hater of the Ages here. Thanks to the final poster, who gets the point of this thread. See, I posted my future kid names, too, and people hate them, thus living up to the purpose of these posts. No harm done! Just thought it was an interesting thread, is all. Also, I'm not sure where it's written that we have to name our kids something from our own ethnicity only, especially people like me who are half-German and half-White American Mutt (mom is Welsh, Irish, and English, but her family has been in the US since the early 1800s so I don't consider myself any of those). Husband is also a White American Mutt with slightly more recent ties to Ireland. Like any other parent, I like to put thought into the names I give my kid because I want the name to fit just as well on a child as an adult. They can totally change it someday if they hate it. I also understand not liking Moira...seems to be a love it or hate it deal. Never heard anyone else say it reminds them of a cow! I usually get "imagine an old lady from the Bronx saying it, MOYYY rah". Too awesome...I'll have to call her my little MooMoo or something
|
Who said Moira sounds like a cow? |
Ok, I get this is the thread on names we dislike. But you need some help if you consume your time researching why people name their kids names you don't like!
Signed, mother of a boy with a middle name of Braeden, that has NEVER met another Brayden/Braeden, only knows one Aiden, and no Jaydens, and that likes the name because one translation is "Brave". |
I am too and I have a Jake. We liked it bc it translates easily into Russian and Hebrew |
You're right, I probably could have used the 5 seconds it took me to google that more productively, but alas, I am a wastrel who uses my free time to read forums about frivolous kid things. I also google everything ever...o, lament those countless hours I've spent learning about the world around me! |

I think I can safely narrow down the common names I dislike to pretty much every name my husband likes.
Given that our DC will eventually have to have a name, I'm thinking we have a problem. |
