I now hate Alex, Alexander, Alexandra, Lexi, Alexa, Alexis, Lexus, Lex or any other name that sounds like that. There are about 8 in my son's class at school, and if you yell "Lex" on the playground, a whole crowd of kids comes running. Its truly annoying. |
Mia seems to be overly popular, same with Ella. As if going with a shorter name is some kind of unique twist. |
Just "Jack." |
Yes, this. Horrific names. |
Re: Alexander. I know a million of 'em too. Funny thing is, I wanted to name my baby Alexender, after two different great-grandfathers. (I had a girl, whose top-20 name hasn't shown up here... yet.) If I had a son named Alexander, I would feel as if I had some right to the name that all those other wannabes didn't. Which would be totally dumb, because names are obviously cyclical, and a bunch of the current crop of Alexanders are probably named after their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, too!
Why aren't we seeing preschool classes full of Carols and Donnas and Keiths and Jerrys, I wonder? Do you think the day will come?? Though I do know a little Stanley. Maybe he's ahead of the curve. |
Hopefully I wouldn't know if they hated my kid's name -- how would I know about this unless they volunteered such petty information? Anyway, what matters most is that they like or at least treat my kid with respect. In which case, again, I probably wouldn't know if they hated my kid's name. Circular. Logical. |
I'm with several PPs who hate Jacob. Not just because it's popular, because it's ugly. I can't figure out why it's so popular. |
I think it is hilarious when people name their kids names that are obviously hard to pronounce and then act horrified when you mispronounce their names. What, you don't speak Gaelic??

I'm the PP. I should have explained myself better. My question was in response to the people who posted about the OP being mean and the comments about "bitches" responding to the posts. I don't understand why they care about other people possibly not liking their kids' name. Why is a stranger not liking a name hurtful? |
The Isabelle, Isabella, ella, bella family of names
the emma, emily, emiline family all the Aidan, Brayden, Caden, Jaydens enough already with these overused names! |
I agree with the -aden poster. Brayden, Cayden, Jayden, etc ... they are all like nails on a chalkboard to me. My hometown is down South, though, and these names are just EVERYWHERE down there, so maybe that's why i dislike them so. Up here, you seem to get a lot more Tuckers and Carters and Avas and Emmas. |
OP, why are you intentionally trying to hurt the feelings of parents who gave their children particular names?
PPs who actually listed them--shame on you for joining in the collective cat fight. FYI, I have no stake in this (DC's name is uncommon but standard), but I am really taken by the deliberate meanness of this post. |
Sorry, 13:32, I admire the sentiment, but it's like trying to turn the tide with a teacup. The appeal of being anonymously bitchy is just too strong. Since we know from experience that we as a group can't have a truly civilized discussion about anything, we might as well have one or two threads that draw the meanest posters away from the potentially useful topics. Keep them focused on being gratuitously horrible, or give them an outlet, so that productive discussions can happen elsewhere. |
Levi and Caden. |
