I heard on public radio that Ukraine will manufacture one million drones this year, drones that can travel hundreds of miles to take out strategic targets. Ukraine is becoming a leader in military production out of the necessity of defending against this Russian invasion, and I am glad that there is a silver lining for them that they will have such expertise and manufacturing capability so they can rebuild and fund their rebirth after they defeat Putin and begin their next chapter. |
We are against open carry of legal firearms by non-MPD non-military people in our city. There is no hunting in DC, so for what purpose do people want to open carry long guns in the city? |
You are upset with the wrong people. |
I was only in JROTC, but I come from a long serving military family - every generation since the revolution - and I get what you mean. I saw photos that were taken of the audience inside the room; stone faced or poker faced, whichever you prefer. The word on the street is that the general consensus was absolute disgust with what they heard and that they were summoned to hear it. |
I’m the OP and I have to imagine the disgust these brave men (and hopefully women) felt listening to these speeches, threats made (if you don’t like what we are saying leave and see what happens) being told that hazing and instilling fear in our troops is the future of our military. Being scolded for not cheering for frump. This is shameful. |
I'm sure there are some that feel as you do. Most likely approve of most, but not all of the changes. And, there are some who are all for it. I think of someone I know on an ROTC hike/march. They had a time limit and his group was falling behind. He had to carry a female cadet's backpack because she was slowing them down. Some of what Hegseth said has value. |
You see the difference between not leaving someone behind and hazing right? |
Your random ROTC anecdote has minuscule significance to the appropriateness of Hegseth's comments today. I'm sure the military has plenty of actually relevant data, plus knowledge of the importance, or lack thereof, of pushups to modern warfare. |
Agree. I’ve been stress eating all day. |
lol ROTC? Really? So what? There are tons of people(men and women) who join and quit ROTC. ROTC cadets actually are evaluated for 4 weeks in the summer between your junior and senior year. Never heard of a forced march in ROTC. Maybe it was for an EIB? The final graded event is a 12-mile foot march which must be completed in three hours or less. That is not really hard to do. I think you are trying to say women should not be in the military because they can not keep up with any male? Were you in the military? I have seen a lot of men who can not keep up with women. Specially many of the support units. It’s not like all female who are in combat roles have to pass a standardized physical test that has no gender bias. Oh wait they do! Next you will be posting about changing ROE because killing civilians always works out well in the end. It separates the good guys(and countries) from the bad ones. |
What is this, 1919? Enjoy hiking away from 500 drones controlled from 500 miles away. |
Sure, it was anecdotal. It was also true. You do know that most ROTC students get tuition and a stipend? And, yes, well aware of LDAC or whatever the current name is at Ft Lewis. And, if you listened to the speech, Hegseth also said that there were also men who would not meet the standard. Yes, we had a big discussion about ROE in my house today. No one is calling for NO ROE, just reasonable ones. A year or so ago, DH and his military buddies were discussing their ROE in Vietnam compared to what their kids were required in Afghanistan. There were issues then, too, with the requirements. But, lately, it has been worse. And, there is a place in DOD for those in support roles that do not require the PT test. It is called civilian jobs. |
The military is having a hard enough time recruiting. This Hegseth nonsense will only make that so much worse. |
We'll see. They claim it has improved. |
I used AI. Isn’t that the new thing people use here? I never make things up. Feel free to try and point something out. I’m still waiting for links to stories about legally possessed and registered handguns being taken from citizens at D.C. checkpoints. Again, I’ll keep waiting. Here’s a Duke law article. “The change, as announced by Pirro, involves instructing attorneys within the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office “not to seek felony charges against people who are carrying rifles or shotguns” in public. The shift relates only to long guns, not handguns. It apparently involves only long guns for which the owner has sought and obtained a valid registration certificate, as Pirro did not mention any changes to D.C.’s registration requirements and stated that her shift simply “preclude[s ] a separate charge of possession of a registered rifle or shotgun” being carried in a public space. Registered long guns, then, can be carried in public without the risk of arrest under the new policy.” https://firearmslaw.duke.edu/2025/09/whats-happening-with-washington-d-c-s-public-carry-laws You desperately want to be right, but you’re woefully uninformed. |
