Trump just said something aggressive to Putin. This is such a strong negotiating tactic that Russia will give im without a fight and so generals will no longer be necessary.

There has been an ongoing purge in the higher ranks of the military, as you all know. A disproportionate number of those who were fired are women and minorities.

Hegseth et al don't care that it creates a notable security risk. They are blind to any priority except their very shortsighted loyalty to Trump and their implementation of loyalty requirements, not to the nation and the constitution, but to Trump and his minions.
