Hegseth's Grand Summoning

These Generals and Flag Officers must be seething at having to take orders from, and be lectured by, a Fox News presenter.

This seems like something awful is imminent. Theories? Facts?

They have to swear loyalty to fuhrer trump or get fired.

I'm guessing it's all about optics. I do think Trump will wind up addressing them directly, and part of this is about getting images of Trump "commanding the armed forces" for the press and for their own purposes.

But in this administration, image IS substance. Part of this is absolutely about bringing the military to heel and making sure even the top military brass know they serve at the pleasure of the president, who is a thin-skinned baby with dictatorial impulses.

So I think it will be basically nothing, but also the specific brand of nothing that in this administration is also ominous and threatening.

I have a neighbor who is a Major General. I’m just curious if he is high ranking enough to be one of the summoned.

Yes, he is. Hegseth wants everybody O7 through O10 and Major General is O8.

How much of a problem is it if they are let go? They seem to be able to find other civilian jobs. Don't they get retirement anyway? Does it put the US at more risk without these 100 officers?

It’s 800 officers.

The good ones are absolutely seething. The US military is the most powerful force in the world because it is professional and non-partisan. They swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the political hacks of the day.

But Trump and Hegseth are really moving hard to turn the military into a banana republic force that is nothing more than the lethal arm of the Republican Party, which is a cult of personality today. The party of Reagan, both Bushes, Romney, and McCain is dead.

It’s a dangerous time. It’s probably not a coincidence that Trump and Hegseth are meeting with Erdogan today. Lots of lessons to be learned from how Turkey has used the military to subvert democracy and embrace the cult of personality.

Republicans are a real threat to national security today.

Seriously! My company used to hire these people and they’d make bank. I think I’d prefer them in their current roles, though, than to essentially be doing sales.

I can't imagine the low morale right now at the pentagon and any armed services. Can't imagine taking orders from Hegseth and orange one, sometimes leading to taking people's lives..
