He said FAFO. I would have loved to see those admirals, generals, colonels, get up and walk out. There he was in his suit and tie in front of all those in uniform and his think little stripe of colors. Sad sad day.
Have you ever been in a military unit? Doesn't sound like it.
I was only in JROTC, but I come from a long serving military family - every generation since the revolution - and I get what you mean. I saw photos that were taken of the audience inside the room; stone faced or poker faced, whichever you prefer. The word on the street is that the general consensus was absolute disgust with what they heard and that they were summoned to hear it.
I’m the OP and I have to imagine the disgust these brave men (and hopefully women) felt listening to these speeches, threats made (if you don’t like what we are saying leave and see what happens) being told that hazing and instilling fear in our troops is the future of our military. Being scolded for not cheering for frump. This is shameful.
I'm sure there are some that feel as you do. Most likely approve of most, but not all of the changes. And, there are some who are all for it. I think of someone I know on an ROTC hike/march. They had a time limit and his group was falling behind. He had to carry a female cadet's backpack because she was slowing them down. Some of what Hegseth said has value.
Your random ROTC anecdote has minuscule significance to the appropriateness of Hegseth's comments today. I'm sure the military has plenty of actually relevant data, plus knowledge of the importance, or lack thereof, of pushups to modern warfare.
