Ya’ll wont be happy until she’s dead.

No, that's CNN being in bed with them and pushing their PR.

I don't want to care about them or like or dislike them. I hate the monarchy. But this is so obviously BS. The cab driver never felt unsafe. NYPD's statement was very mild. They did not need to release a statement.

^^literally. And once she’s dead, you’ll say she brought it upon herself. NYC driving is chaotic by itself even without 12 other vehicles surrounding you and trying to get a picture of you. They’re far from perfect, but I would believe they are being harassed in dangerous ways.

Have the paparazzi released footage of the cab or suv driving on the sidewalk? Surely they didn’t put their cameras away for 2 hours while following the cars

Well, the cabbie who drove them says it wasn't a chase and that he never felt like he was in danger.

Also, the UES of NYC is a really difficult place to have a high speed chase! This just strains credulity. If they were on an expressway or something I would buy it, but the UES?

I think it would have been a better choice for the spokesperson to describe it as an aggressive chase rather than using the hyperbolic language ‘near catastrophic.’ That said, even if the chase didn’t feel as scary to the cab driver or to the cops who see extreme things all the time doesn’t mean it wasn’t very upsetting to Harry whose mother was killed this way and to Meghan who has two littles she wants to get home to in one piece. And frankly an accident could very easily have happened, high speed isn’t required for a tragedy they happen ALL THE TIME in cities all across the country. A pedestrian could easily have been hurt or killed by erratic driving of paps chasing them.

This really matters to Harry, his mom DIED this way. I think it is sad to see all the folks reacting so negatively and mocking them. They provided ample opportunity for pictures before and after the event. This kind of paparazzi stalking of ALL celebrities should be socially unacceptable. Media should refuse to publish pictures taken this way. The whole practice should be done, it’s intrusive and often creates unreasonable risks and dangers. Enough.

Can you stop saying stuff like this? It's so weird. People are allowed to not like a celebrity. They're objectively annoying. No one is wishing death on them.

No one has said “high speed”.
The cabbie was the last 10 mins and the third vehicle used to evade the paparazzi that were blowing lights (at least 15 mentioned) and riding on sidwalks - they continued to pursue even after police arrived on scene.

And I would believe that they do receive harassment and they do perceive it to be more dangerous than it is. Like, I think they believe this is happening and they want to believe they are just.like.Diana in every conceivable way possible. And they also have the intention to use all of this to their advantage. They are simultaneously constantly triggered and wholly entitled.

I don't think that's true now that they're not royal. One of the reports I saw about this incident mentioned that a recent court case determined Harry cannot pay for police protection while he's in England anymore, and he's appealing that decision. So they don't get the royal treatment, pun intended, which would make them even more of a target because from what I can tell British people hate Meghan even more than DCUMers.

I think it's more split. At least among young people, it's more they're not liked, but the rest of the royals are viewed in an even more negative light. Under 50 have a majority opposed to monarchy, and under 25 flat out prefer a republic

They need to go the way of the rest of the European monarchies. They have them, but just barely and they're more socialites than anything. Or they can follow Germany and completely ditch them.

Interesting that you chose Germany as an example, a country which ditched monarchy and embraced fascism and then perpetrated the greatest crimes against humanity in all of human history. I say this as a German, by the way.

If we want to hold up an example of a country that shed the monarchy (with some violence, power never concedes without insistent demand) and enshrined the rights of man, we should look to France or the USA, these are the best examples of liberty on the face of the earth.

Note the difference in how the experience was described:

H&M: "Near-catastrophic."

Police: "A bit chaotic".

The TMZ article said they were going 80mph.

Okay, and as a former prosecutor I’ll remind you that what we see in law enforcement every day hardens us to things we all would hope most people would never have to see. Something that doesn’t upset the average cop and ever the average big city cab driver would most likely upset 80% of the people on this board if it happened to them. Cultivate compassion, people.

This hasn't happened to 80% of people on this board. It happened to two celebrities, one of which has never NOT experienced paps, and the other has had ample time to get acclimated to them.

Sadly, the real reason his mother died was that her driver had a high blood alcohol level. He was driving while impaired and made some very bad decisions. If the driver of that car had not been drinking before getting behind the wheel, there very well may not have been a crash that night.
