Prince Harry and Meghan in Near Catastrophic Car Chase in NYC

Anonymous
NYPD released a statement that is kind of understated. Says there were phortographers and they helped provide protection. No collisions.

Almost sounds as though they are going out of their way to not call the Sussexes liars.

I think now that the queen has died, the monarchy should just go away. The queen was it. All the fanfare aboht making Charles king seems so silly. And it will seem even sillier in like 5 years when he dies and they do it ALL OVER AGAIN. The queens death was the end of an era and they need to just put it all to rest now IMO

You know who I think has a problem with that? The American residents who have the press issue corrections when they aren’t addressed by their titles.

I don't think that's true now that they're not royal. One of the reports I saw about this incident mentioned that a recent court case determined Harry cannot pay for police protection while he's in England anymore, and he's appealing that decision. So they don't get the royal treatment, pun intended, which would make them even more of a target because from what I can tell British people hate Meghan even more than DCUMers.

I think it's more split. At least among young people, it's more they're not liked, but the rest of the royals are viewed in an even more negative light. Under 50 have a majority opposed to monarchy, and under 25 flat out prefer a republic

They need to go the way of the rest of the European monarchies. They have them, but just barely and they're more socialites than anything. Or they can follow Germany and completely ditch them.

Dismantling the country from within. So liberal teaching of global citizenship is paying off splendidly, hmm?

Exactly. Meghan is pathetic. I doubt Harry would seek additional attention. She’s the control freak.

There were no accidents or injuries during this 2 hour debacle, so “near catastrophic” is a bit of a stretch.

Also, why let it go on for 2 hours? Seems the driver should have pulled over. This wasn’t a mob trying to kill them. It’s horribly invasive, but surely avoiding being photographed after appearing at a much-publicized public event isn’t worth anyone’s life. So stop the car. Surely someone had a phone and could call police?

This is where I am at with it. Why is a driver taking evasive maneuvers in one of the most crowded cities on earth to avoid two people being...photographed. A two hour chase through NYC? With a police escort? What kind of escort was this?

This is either a failure of logistics, and/or security, or it didn't happen in the manner they claim it did.

Or saving hundreds of millions and then making hundreds of millions more once Buckingham palace becomes a tourist attraction.

This is Meghan’s Diana fantasy multiplied by Harry’s security lawsuit. It’s not going to go their way, but they will issue statements saying otherwise.

They are all drama. All the time.

I personally find it hard to believe paparazzis can pursue ANYONE on the streets of Manhattan for TWO hours without getting stopped by police. Manhattan streets aren't really conducive to speeding.

+1 Exactly my thoughts when reading. Don't want to compromise your friend's house, then stay at a hotel. Pull over. Anything is better than endangering people's lives.

I just posted and said it was a failure of logistics/security if the description is accurate. I mean, this stuff isn't rocket science. NYC hosts dignitaries all the time. Drive to a hotel that can offer a secure garage/elevator option and change vehicles there. There are a lot of different ways to handle this issue.

Well gosh the problem is Joe Biden and Rihanna aren’t as famous as Meghan Markle. They just aren’t getting the same pressure or going to star-studded events like the Met Ga- I mean the Ms. Awards. Different level!

This isn't relevant to the topic at hand, especially as you're confusing the institution of the monarchy/RF with individuals. I read UK presses all the time because I lived there for a long time and I generally trust their papers over the American papers as they tend to be less sensationalists (not including the tabloids). Both Harry and Meghan are wildly unpopular in the UK. This incident isn't going to help because it is perhaps too desperate to seem genuine, at least in the way their spokesperson tells it. A pattern of hyperbolic claims continues. To start with, Meghan getting an award for service when her service is... well, nothing, and then a couple who made a huge deal about wanting privacy putting themselves again in the public limelight certainly sets the tone for the evening!

I can see a paranoid Harry telling the cab driver and police not to do this or that and it prolonged what would have been nothing more than a few annoying paps taking pictures for a few minutes.
