Where do "B" average Big-3 students go to college?

What score is as A, and what is B+?

HA HA HA HA
I have a senior at a Big 3:

Wisconsin is for b+/a- and ABOVE students with good to great test scores and lots of rigor. Keep in min the heavy hitter kids use it as a safety. Almost a third of the class from our school applied and about 6 that I know of got in EA the rest deferred or rejected.

That is a ridiculous list- Tulane maybe if ED and full pay, if not forget it
Hamilton and Bates are more competitive.

My kid's B student friends- Colorado, UVM, Alabama, Tennessee, Ol' Miss etc.

Agree PP on Tulane. Kids below 3.5 not much chance particularly TO, even if ED. Our private counselor told us this when our daughter was deferred ED (TO), 3.7 from public. Switched to ED2 and submitted scores and was accepted. Know of several Big 3 rejected, not sure if EA or ED.

Sorry, deferred EA first.

Let's assume no hook, or small hook. Full pay (no FA or scholarship needed.) Will probably write a strong essay, but not astonishingly good. What are typical target schools for this kind of student? Thank you!

Nowhere better than the same student in a public school.
Should have invested that money in rental properties or an ETF. The opportunity cost is about $1 million for each kid.

What is the uw GPA?
At our school 3.6 would be Bucknell (ED); Santa Clara/Tulane (ED)/Wake (ED)/ U-Miami (ED)
This candidate must use ED1/ED2….

There can be a pretty significant difference in outcomes based on what type of B. A high B+ student with high scores will have different choices than a B (84ish) student. Rigor, EC activities and strategic use of ED will also determine options.

B-average (3.0-3.3) is well below the mean at the Big 3 and they will not have a shot at UVA or William and Mary. UMiami, USouthCarolina, Auburn, UTK, JMU.

So the mean is a B or B+?

That sounds high.

SLACs in particular are very familiar with these schools and admit their students. People saying no way just aren’t familiar with the admission patterns from those schools.

That could be possible but then that student could certainly get into Tulane or Wisc.

Wisc is not a small LAC. They use numbers as a metric in a way other small schools do not.

One "B" Average Big-3 Student is not the same as another. Have to consider what classes were taken (advanced math and sciences or not) as well as if the lower grades are explained by exceptional extra curriculars like being nationally ranked in a sport etc.

A student taking the hardest course load at a Big-3 and ending up with say a 3.30 GPA (Which would be averaging B+) should definitely get into schools like Hamilton.

Nobody’s getting into two lane with a B average unless it’s under a sports scholarship.

My Kid did.

Hmmmm….
Auburn, yes, five years ago. Not today.

That said, no supplemental. Just tick the box. So no harm is applying, but I wouldn’t put it in your match column.
