It is kinda out there for me but I would not be freaking out and calling people perverts and trying to ban it. This whole line of "children until 12th grade" line of thinking is ridiculous. Kids become sexually mature in their teens and if you aren’t dealing with the reality of this you are a terrible parent. Even my uptight parents gave me books that dealt with periods, sex and reproduction...with drawings of penises even!!!!!! When I was 13. But even at 14 I saw through the propaganda of the book..."when a husband and wife love each other very much..." If my kid were that interested and wanted to read it I wouldn't stop him. This book at least deals with the emotions of kids. |
Yeah, I am another taxpayer, and I don't want people like you dictating what anyone should see. |
So porn everywhere and anywhere then? No boundaries on sexual content at all? |
I’ll never be okay with groups who oppose teaching science (evolution, ed) trying to dictate what sexual content is acceptable for teenagers to access or which books should be banned. I’m uncomfortable with compromising even though I can see why genderqueer is controversial. If you give them an inch they’ll take a mile, much like the Supreme Court nominations being blocked then pushed through, and how we’ve gone from being able to access safe abortions to forcing women and children to travel out of state for healthcare or face unsafe pregnancies and lawmakers wanting to ban birth control. Not to mention 1/6. If these fools start with small wins about which books the kids in their town’s school have access to, it’s going to lead to further restrictions in those schools and trying to spread it to counties and states. This isn’t okay. |
If you call this comic drawing porn there is no helping you. James Joyce’s Dubliners was also once deemed porn and banned. You’d have been on the committee to axe that from the library back in the day. |
We can’t take you seriously when you call this book pornography. Go ahead and challenge it in court. You’ll see it does’t meet the criteria for pornography. |
This is not "porn." Do you have a teen boy? You do realize they masterxxxx pretty much nonstop from puberty on? Because they are sexual beings. Even at 15. You can try to hide your head in the sand, but if you don't properly prepare them for what is ahead, beyond a purity pledge or some garbage like that, you are failing at one of the most important parenting jobs you have. My parents made sure I was very prepared on at least the basic facts. I was born to an unwed mother and didn't want to continue the trend. But I think a book like this comic book would have been good for me to see at about 16 on up. |
+1 For every sane person who doesn’t want to live under the yoke of fanatical “Christianity” and fascism, be sure to vote straight Democratic ticket and make sure that you get several reliable Democratic voters to the polls with you. This is not a joke. This book isn’t even pornographic and the one pearl clutches won’t admit that, so what else will get culled next time? Books from a Democratic POV? Books that treat all religions equally? It won’t stop with “pornography.” Vote these dumb emmer effers out. |

Sorry - a person wearing a dildo and another person giving them a blow job pretty much fits the definition of pornography. If you can’t admit that, there is just nothing more to say.
This has nothing to do with sex education. |
A pretend organ with no nerve endings whatsoever, an awkward experience that the couple mutually agrees to stop because it’s not fulfilling to both of them? Do you also find those Amish “romance” novels to be “pornography” too? ![]() |
DP in the context of the book I think these scenes are not meant as titillating and pornographic. Just like Judy Blume, whose books have been challenged. Parents might feel uncomfortable with the idea of their kids reading some of her stories, but they are the sorts of issues that kids wonder and think about. The body is not a gross disgusting shameful thing. It’s so much healthier for kids to be comfortable with their bodies than ashamed of them. And again, if you think these things are shameful and too adult for your 16 year old to know about, that’s your prerogative as a parent. You don’t get to dictate what other parents decide for theirs. |
Sex ed is not just about reproduction. |
You’re right! For Republicans, sex ed is about girls pledging their virginity to their fathers and everyone praising Jesus and learning that birth control makes you get pregnant. Abstinence only for all! |
Can’t believe I’m bothering to respond to a troll, but here we are. Sex ed is not about using dildos and giving blow jobs. That you think it is (or *should* be) speaks volumes about you and what you expose your kids to. |
