You are preaching right now about things that have no effect on the field. |
You also cannot have it both ways by proclaiming "America!" while also disregarding the First Amendment and the fact that it applies to everyone, even athletes. |
| No I am answering the person who ridiculed Trump people and then sidestepped the flag issue and yes you cannot have it both ways. And yes most people are tired of all the anger.. |
I believe in first amendment and were we talking about someone being arrested? but the reality is no one is barely watching sports because they are tired of all the anger. They turn off sports and other things like The Oscars. The hypocrisy is the immediate name calling of “Trumpers” when those same people who are upset that there are people happy that USWT lost ( and I am not one of them) but are okay with disrespect to our flag. Most people again just want to watch sports and appreciate people leave the politics to another arena. I am pretty sure this is true because people just turn off the tv. I am amazed how clueless people are that 99 percent of our country isn’t interested in anyone’s politics. |
Get it back onto soccer or the posts will be removed. |
She is 28 , which would have made her the third youngest player on our defensive line. Only Sonnet (who was born the same year) and Davidson are younger, but they spent most of the tournament on the bench with only sporadic appearances. The big problem is that our forwards have aged: Heath 33, Lloyd 39, Press 32, Morgan 32, Rapinoe 36, and Williams 28. All except for Williams are past their prime. |
I started watching soccer a long time ago because of Hope Solo. She was must see tv in those days. Now all the exciting young players are on the mens side and they are truly going in opposite directions. |
Only a Trumper would be dumb enough to think that kneeling is "disrespect to out flag." Get outta here with that weak nonsense. You don't like what they kneel for and what to couch your criticism in terms of the flag rather than be honest about it. |
Part of the reason she retired is that she was the best left back in the country and couldn't get on the national team due to politics. Her coach and gay players at North Carolina vouched for her but the team would never accept her. This is where the team lost their way because they were operating in dual tracks of an athletic team and social justice movement. That's fine, but it creates an inherent conflict where player selection and lineups are decided by non-soccer factors. The old guard wasn't going to step aside and it was suicide for new coach to come in and adequately promote young players in six months. Then COVID happened so even though he got an extra year, he opted to stick with most of the WC 19 team that won but was flawed. The decision to have Dunn as a left back worked in France because they got enough offense through penalties and set pieces, but the open play was lacking. She is one of the team's best attacking options but is left in the back because they don't have a suitable replacement. Daniels could have been that. Another option was never found. It wasn't a surprise the midfield at the Olympics was thrashed by better teams and the front lacked any consistency. Rapinoe and Morgan are dreadfully off pace, but can you imagine if the team's social justice figurehead and recovering mom were not on team? Heath was another curious choice because she had missed most of the season. Yes, Macario looks like a player of the future, but her playing limited minutes in Tokyo makes me think she isn't quite ready. Lavalle did not have a great tournament and will be 28 by the next World Cup. She's the youngest of the midfielders. None of the forwards will be younger than 30. This next generation has a lot of questions and we haven't seen them in meaningful minutes. Big challenge for Vlatko to get this sorted out in next two years. |
She retired last year at 27. |
The kneeling is a cheap virtue signaling. If you want to have a meaningful protest, you decline the call up. However, if you accept the call up and wear your country's jersey, you show respect to the national anthem and flag. | Am I the only one happy to see these communist loving losers lose? |
Right, she prayed and decided not to play. And then she was called back to camp and last five days before they cut her because of the uproar inside and outside the team. Tolerance is two-way street. She had routinely played with gay teammates on club. There were never any issues. Her sin was saying her beliefs out loud. It's not surprising she walked away from the game at 27 when she already had achieved everything and was never going to play for the national team. |

Look at all the hate. And you don’t think that politics impacted team chemistry? You think every player thinks the same? You don’t think some of the players are starting to lose really hate each other?
Reality is Jill would have crushed this and made the team hyper focused. This new coach is the “cool guy”. This team doesn’t need a “cool guy”. They needed a leader. I agree with a previous poster. You want to protest? Do it by no accepting the call up. Otherwise, do your job and be 100 percent about the team and mission. There is no room for anything else in order to win at this level. |
When you have a platform you can use it for affecting causes that are important to you. It’s always been that way. Business leaders, corporate CEOs have been involved in politics and causes, promoting their causes within their company and from the board room. Religious leaders have done the same. There is little pushback on them to stay out of politics. For women and minorities, who have never had much of a platform in business or religion leadership, sports is one of the rare platforms available. Using your platform to speak out on causes you believe in is what America is all about. When people don’t like the message they say things like “stay out of politics” and “shut up and play”. People said this about Muhammad Ali, NBA players, Martina Navratilova, nothing new. It just so happens that the biggest platform available to some, the way to get the most people to pay attention to their cause, is to protest during the national anthem because it triggers people like you. Meaningful social protests have always been uncomfortable to those who don’t want change |
