When is LAMB closing the Brookland campus?

That’s the point of this whole thread. School lied to parents about the permanent location at SD. Now there likely will be no shuttle. If no shuttle this year, pretty good bet there will be no shuttle the following year.

Then a current parent, who doesn’t have much insight or empathy, pats herself on the back about her commute in the past which is much different than the horrendous commute the families at SD will have to do.

This is why parents are angry. The SD families are treated as 2nd class citizens if that.

Well if you don’t like it, we’ll happily take your seat. Better than moving to Maryland. 😉

Not really because commute would be similar but you have a guarantee strong elementary to high school track.

I think the PP and many lamb parents are underestimating the sheer number of students who were told Brookland was the permanent location. I was also told this. I don’t really care that others were told up front that they had to commute to a different, similarly located lamb campuses a decade ago. It will take us over an hour to get to kingsbury. I can’t afford to move to 16th St Heights and I don’t really want to. I think it’s so disgusting to hear families rant about SD families in what feels to me to be a racially motivated manner.

As a warning to future families, even though many schools have shuttle buses, lamb admin and parents have been very very against a bus. You’ll hear Pp and her friends on parentsquare ranting about entitlement and telling that same sad story about the different lamb locations over and over again, and lots of faux outrage “that you’d put a 3 year old on a bus!!!!!” or that “no one has the job to drive your kid to school!!!” I, and many many others, think it’s a coded way to keep poorer and blacker kids out of the school. Imagine if a healthy chunk of the student body now has to drive across town or play the lottery- don’t you think that they would hold at least one fundraiser for a bus? Not if they were afraid of opening up the school to “undesirables.” They literally put money towards some landscaping project instead.

For what it’s worth, our family will be leaving this year. I hope the next group of SD parents don’t let people like 10 year lamb family above bully them and question their parenting like they did to those of us who really wanted to stay at lamb but couldn’t make it work. A bus isn’t that hard and can easily happen if you don’t have a secret agenda. At least that’s my opinion.

Is anyone moving to MV8 instead of commuting to Kingsbury? We’re considering that move, but not sure.

If you live in Brookland or anywhere south of Brookland, this would be a no brainer.

Different from going in the opposite direction (Brookland to 16th St Heights), then all the way back down to downtown. Not impossible, but harder and longer.

NP. This really isn’t true. I did the 16th St Heights to SD campus to downtown for our first 3 years at LAMB. It definitely isn’t a detour and was way out of the way I needed to go (worked down by the White House at that time). I would actually say that the opposite direction (Brooklyn’s to Kingsbury to downtown) is more direct depending on where one’s office is. Just pop down Arkansas to Piney Branch/Beach/Rock Creek (one way at rush hour).

Oh, and I’m not saying it will be an easy commute for Brookland LAMB families - I feel for you having done it the opposite way. It really sucked after a while, especially after years of not driving to work. I just wanted to note that the notion of it being easier and just a detour wasn’t reality.

You are lucky to have this option. Many families would make the move if it was an option.

We had this option but turned it down, mainly because a lot of MV families were also unhappy particularly around the admin's opening of this new campus, plus a lot of discussion about no DCI guarantee.

Now that MV8 seems to be doing well we have re applied but have not gotten in, though unsure we would accept spot.

What you would be giving up is Montessori. A lot of people seem to forget that LAMB is not only about the Spanish, but a type of education which is markedly different from what you would find at MV. There are also rumors of MV8 moving too. It has no playground.

PP here. We’re struggling with whether the academics are comparable in the upper grades. I hear so many frustrations with MV’s curriculum and teaching, I worry we’ll regret trading convenience for quality in a few years and not be able to go back.

I don’t know where you are getting your misinformation from but MV8 is not moving. They are renting the current building and have plan to purchase it.

You know that LAMB doesn't have DCI guarantee anymore, right? Neither Stokes, DCB, or MV.

Don’t believe everything that you read in DCUM.

It's not only DCUM, but actual parents that I know. This is hard to assess because the 8th street campus does not have upper grades yet.

PP. That's my take as well. I see more parents wanting to leave MV in the upper grades than LAMB parents. That's all anecdotal and it feels like charter parents tend to either have rose colored glasses or a personal vendetta, but aside from test scores (which are a wash from what I can tell) and playground conversations, what else is there to go by? Montessori is great, but not something I'd make a deciding factor for an upper elementary kid.

You might not, but you'd be surprised at how interesting it can be for that age group. I do not know how MV teaches upper elementary (their pedagogy).
