Good luck but the grind and stress will wear you down. Others have tried and and decided it wasn’t worth it. |
| /\ then LAMB will never back fill the seat after the cross-town commute family gives up. Sigh. |
| So you think all the South Dakota campus families will give up? So far none that I know have although some have moved closer. I guess you are one of the ones who is leaving. |
So so so many have left and many more won’t come back after this virtual year. School has made it clear they don’t care we are leaving. |
Where are they all going? |
If a lot of families leave, it’s going to be a financial hit to LAMB. Add that onto an expensive new campus that still needs renovation. |
This. You’re saying they’re leaving and I should/will too. There just aren’t any comparable options unless we win the lottery.... |
That’s not really true, LAMB has always planned for small upper grades and attrition. They can add kids in PK to compensate. Unfortunately parents aren’t in a position of power. This is true at all charters as we’ve clearly seen. |
|
The report that was presented to the Board by Admin suggested that LAMB has higher than normal attrition levels this year. There's a sentence suggesting that it is about the pandemic.
I presume that other DCPS and charters in the area have seen similar higher attrition as people move to private or the suburbs or away from the area. |
| Brookland family here - I don't know of anyone that is leaving, so take what you read here with a grain of salt... |
The people who were leaving pretty squarely suggest that it is due to the lack of a bus option for those of us who are too far from Kingsbury to make the commute. The attitude from the administration has not been reassuring. I don’t see how a bus with windows open is less safe than a classroom, but I have stopped caring. I have a ton of sympathy for the poster saying they don’t know where to go unless they win the lottery again. I feel your pain! I can assure you that the administration has zero interest in helping, and the pto even less. Instead of fundraising for a bus, they literally put money towards a garden path. I would think that most people would at least pretend to do something about us Brooklanders and beyond, especially since many of us were told the campus would never move from Brookland! No the school is using the pandemic to cease operation of the bus, and isn’t interested at all in retaining us. Many have left and will continue to leave as they find places elsewhere. Sending love to you. Hopefully there will be less traffic since many now work from home. Otherwise I am totally out of ideas. |
Just you wait. |
They aren't planning to leave...yet. That cross-town commute--during rush hour in both directions--will be brutal. |
No many have already accepted spots elsewhere or moved. I can think of at least 5 families off the top of my head. A school who gave a $h1t about educating children would at least try to retain them, but since it’s become very obvious they don’t (and neither does the PTO) they’re ditching it for elsewhere. Beware OP. Don’t think you’ll manage to move either- overpriced suburban boxes in 16th St Heights are going for laughable prices for no discernible reason. |
I really really really hope you and the other neighbors you speak of are emailing the admin, or calling, because now is the time to push for the bus. You may think it's off the table but it isn't, I think the school feels the demand may not be there anymore since no one is talking about it. The bus can still happen. Board members are also good targets to contact. Forget the PTO of course. Just campaign directly. It is too bad we do not have a separate email contact list for those formerly of the SD campus. |
