I can see both sides. If the shuttle is a significant cost, then it makes sense to use that money in a way that benefits the entire school instead of a small minority of students. On the other hand, if the school made promises about staying in Brookland and/or providing a shuttle, then it seems reasonable to expect them to follow through.
That’s the point of this whole thread. School lied to parents about the permanent location at SD. Now there likely will be no shuttle. If no shuttle this year, pretty good bet there will be no shuttle the following year. Then a current parent, who doesn’t have much insight or empathy, pats herself on the back about her commute in the past which is much different than the horrendous commute the families at SD will have to do. This is why parents are angry. The SD families are treated as 2nd class citizens if that.
I think the PP and many lamb parents are underestimating the sheer number of students who were told Brookland was the permanent location. I was also told this. I don’t really care that others were told up front that they had to commute to a different, similarly located lamb campuses a decade ago. It will take us over an hour to get to kingsbury. I can’t afford to move to 16th St Heights and I don’t really want to. I think it’s so disgusting to hear families rant about SD families in what feels to me to be a racially motivated manner. As a warning to future families, even though many schools have shuttle buses, lamb admin and parents have been very very against a bus. You’ll hear Pp and her friends on parentsquare ranting about entitlement and telling that same sad story about the different lamb locations over and over again, and lots of faux outrage “that you’d put a 3 year old on a bus!!!!!” or that “no one has the job to drive your kid to school!!!” I, and many many others, think it’s a coded way to keep poorer and blacker kids out of the school. Imagine if a healthy chunk of the student body now has to drive across town or play the lottery- don’t you think that they would hold at least one fundraiser for a bus? Not if they were afraid of opening up the school to “undesirables.” They literally put money towards some landscaping project instead. For what it’s worth, our family will be leaving this year. I hope the next group of SD parents don’t let people like 10 year lamb family above bully them and question their parenting like they did to those of us who really wanted to stay at lamb but couldn’t make it work. A bus isn’t that hard and can easily happen if you don’t have a secret agenda. At least that’s my opinion.
