My almost 10 yr old son has been 99th to off the charts for all three measurements since he was born. I distinctly remember his weight of 24 lbs at his 4 month appointment. He was 33 lbs at 1 yrs old 35” ...We’re on the tallish average side, 5’8 and 6’1.

DD is 12, has been 95% or within a percent or two since she was born. 8 inches in last two years!

I don’t know if it’s true or not but our pediatrician told us that it doesn’t go higher than 99th and all tall kids fall into that category with a very wide margin.

My kids were both 99th for height and weight.
Now fully grown
DS 6’5”-
DD 5’10”

My kids were always 99th percentile for height and, at that age, right up there for weight, too. Now DS is 13.5 and almost 6’ tall; DD is 11 and 5’5”. I’m tall but not THAT tall!

Both DSs have been above 94 percentile in height since they were 2. At 13 and 9, they are 97% and 95%, respectively. Both are still in the 90s for weight. DH and I are above average in height. DH's family (siblings, nieces/nephews, first cousins) are all well above average in height. My majority of my family is above average in height, but just barely.

Both of my kids were 99% when they were born. DS1 is now 6 and still in the 80th percentile for height and 60th for weight (6YO well child is next month so we'll see what it says), DS2 is 4 and in the 90th for height and 80th for weight. I'm guessing that DS2 is going to be bigger than DS1 by the time he's 10. They're currently only 3 lbs difference.

My daughter was always between 95th and 99th percentile in height in early years. 50% for weight. Never changed. She's now 13 and 5' 9" and about 100 pounds. New cleats every season (now size 11). Don't know where the height came from.

Was she always 50 points different between height and weight? My kindergartener is proportionate (always a few points lower for weight than height), but somehow that puts her in the overweight category, which is a known issue with BMI calculations at the very top and bottom of the charts. She looks great to me, but less beanpole-like than some other girls her age.

Yeah, she's always been that ratio. She's the bean pole I'm pretty sure her legs go all the way up to her armpits. She is tall and skinny... runs like the wind but always looked like a newborn dear when finding her speed. I've coached girls of every height and weight... there is no correct ratio. Just keep her active and happy and things will work themselves out. Kindergarten is no time to start worrying.... keep a healthy diet and routine and things will play out as they should. And by healthy diet, I mean burgers, veggies and ice cream. Just be mindful of moderation. Lots of growth at that age. Find a good balance, but don't let food become a crutch.

Good luck!

Thanks, PP. Appreciate the kind words of wisdom from a BTDT parent. I had endocrine and fertility issues, and it worries me her size is going to cause early development. But as you said, kindergarten is no time to start worrying. We'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it.

8 years old, 10.1 lbs at birth and never stopped. The weight percentile has fluctuated since then, but her height has maintained. I'm 5'8" and DH is 6'1", and we're the tallest in our families, so not giants, but she has tall in her genes. In contrast, our 4 year old is still wearing 2T.

This is true. It's how distributions work.

DS has been 99 percentile in height and 85+ percentile for weight all his life, elementary and middle school grade levels. He is now a freshman, 14+ and has slowed down significantly in growth. His latest annual physical shows he is 65 percentile in height and similar in weight. The pediatrician says it could be that he is a later bloomer. I am very concerned as his mother. I am 5'9" and DH is 5'11". Most of his peers have outgrown him significantly in past 1.5 years.

My son was almost 11 pounds at birth and there is no chart for that. He’s now about 5’9” and 160 pounds.
