Yes, I would imagine most women would prefer not to be 6’ tall. |
Similar here. Average sized baby turned enormous toddler, 97th percentile height and 80th weight. Started dropping at 3, enough that we were worried about endocrine issues and actually had him tested. Then he went back up a bit. At 7 he is pretty well settled in at around 60th percentile height and 40th weight. DH is 6' and I am 5'7". My younger kid started tiny and was a very thin toddler -- their baby pictures are so different -- but at 4 she has stretched out to 80th percentile height and 30th weight. They all seem to grow at different rates. Parental height is probably a better indicator of where they'll wind up than early growth. That was certainly true when I was a kid, at least. Some of the tallest kids stopped growing early, while some of the smaller ones kept growing. I was always 75th percentile height and my sister 25th percentile, but I stopped growing at 14 and she kept growing until 18, and as adults I'm only an inch taller than she is. (I am still taller though which is the important point!) |
Your kid is going to end up around 5'10" if a boy and 5'7" if a girl and this is especially accurate if you are somewhat similar in racial background However, there is something to be said about the hybrid vigor theory where offspring of different races can potentially end up significantly greater than 1+1 = 2 but the opposite potential holds true as well As background my sister is 5'5" and her husband is 6'2" but from different races and their son is 6'7" but hates sports lol... |
I think it depends on body type. Think and lean like a model, I would like that. Large and muscular, no... I prefer my 5’4” 120 lbs body... but I always wished I were taller! |
Op here - that is very interesting! We are mixed race. My brother is 6’2” and DH has uncles 6’5” |
Oh my word why not? I am 5’7”—I would love to be 6’. |

I think it's too soon to tell. Both my kids have been over 90 percent since birth, but the one who started at 90 is trending to be taller than the one who started at 99. DH is 6'5"; I am 5'4".
I also know a couple babies born at close to 42 weeks who were big 1yos but are now slightly above average in elementary school, with slightly above average parental height. |
I'm 5'7 and I'd love to be 6 ft tall. Clothes look better, more $$$ |
| Stayed 99th percentile (height) until 2nd or 3rd year of high school. Just tall in an area with shorter people, I guess. |
|
I'm 5'7" with tall family members. XH is 5'8".
DS was born in the 97th percentile, fluctuated a little 95th to off the chart, for height and weight. He's 10 now and on track to be 6'4". It was harder when he was little, people expected him to act older because he was so big. DD was born 50th and 50th and she's pretty much done growing and is just under 5'5". |
| I was the tallest kid in my class all through elementary school, but I stopped growing at 12 and ended up at 5'3". So it's not necessarily true that they will stay tall. Oddly, my DH was the same (always one of the tallest but stopped growing early at 5'7"), but both of our kids have been tiny from birth and stayed that way. Go figure. |
Both my kids were in the 99% for height at birth, but dropped - and have generally been steadily in the 25-50% for the past 10-15 years. Sometimes below that. One did grow and is now squarely in the 50th% for height (still 10-25% for weight) and still growing. The other hasn't hit the growth spurt yet, but is definitely in the 5-10% for height and weight. |
| Some of you have some massive babies and toddlers. Little giants. I love it. |

6 foot tall woman here. I was off the charts for height and weight as a baby/toddler. I stayed tall but got really skinny in my tween/teen years as I grew in height without gaining weight. I remember my learner's permit at 15 said I was 5'10" and 125 lbs. I did end up "filling out" and am more of a lean athletic build now than straight up skinny.
I remember going through an awkward phase but I think everyone does. It is not horrifying like short PP makes it out to be. My build helped me get a full athletic scholarship for college, and it's much easier to hide weight gain when you're tall. I would rather be 6'0" than 5'3" any day especially as I get older. Tall people are also viewed as more competent and leader-like in the workplace. |
Oh and to really scare short PP... my mom is only 5'4" and my dad is 6'3". |
