Fed up with Mayor Bowser's Lack of Crackdown on the Proud Boys and Related Fascists

For example, most MPD will choose not to enforce driving while texting laws.

In this case, MPD chose to crack down on BLM protestors for violating curfew, but chose not to crack down on fascist protestors for equal violations.

It's completely backwards and has nothing to do with the constitution. The proud little boys come here to pick fights, not peacefully protest.

Really? Are you sure you want to advocate that? So you're OK with the police arresting young black men for walking down the street smoking a joint, but not white men? After all, they're both engaging in illegal activity, and the police have discretion to act or not. How about a black man carrying a gun v a white man carrying a gun?

And you're fine with the police shooting a black man who resists arrest, but calmly talking down a white man who does the same thing? After all, they have discretion, right?

You may want to revisit this position - "police discretion" rarely is helpful to minority communities.

I don't think you can get rid of police discretion. Robo-cop? Automated cameras? But even automation requires people to automate it.

Since police have a track record of using discretion to hurt minorities, how about we switch that around to discretion to promote justice. It would require real leadership, so not Mayor Bowser.

DC government doesn’t enforce the Mayor’s mask mandate on anyone.

And the DC government can’t prevent people from entering the District.

Do DC police? Really? Can you cite their 'track record' of 'hurting minoroties'? TIA!

The Metropolitan Police Department on Monday released long-delayed and hotly anticipated data on the citizen stops its officers are conducting, shedding early light on police practices that some minority communities say have unfairly targeted them. ...

....Of all stops recorded in the four-week period, 70% were of African Americans, 15% of whites and 7% of Hispanics. The rate among African Americans was lower in traffic stops (61%), but higher in stops that did not result in a ticket or arrest (86%). African Americans currently make up just under half of the city’s population.

If you read the full article, it's hardly damning. But thanks for sharing the link.

There is no such thing as “ANTIFA”. It only exists in the empty heads of Fox News viewers.

I wish people here would stop defending ANTIFA, because although you have the best intentions, you’re causing more harm than good, because you’re all basically ceding the point that ANTIFA exists at all.

It doesn’t. Please stay on message.

Thanks, grandpa. Several of us posted about it not being a formal group.

The point still stands that Mayor Bowser and MPD are quick on the trigger with gas, spray, and bad arrests when it comes to those who oppose fascists, but are light touch and collaborative with the violent Proud Boy gang.

Chicoms don’t exist either

I don't really care about the racial/ethnic background of their leader. These are fascists looking for violence.

I think the Proud boys are sexy.

Ah, yes. The only thing worse than Nazis are Nazi sympathizers. You are less than a worm.

This is like what happened in interwar Europe- fascists and communists fighting in the streets.

Yes, Chicoms - an actual government. As compared to Antifa, which is not an organization. Thank you for drawing out that distinction.

I agree people should not defend Antifa. You can be against fascism and still not be Antifa. Millions of Americans demonstrated for Black lives, and they are not all Antifa. The people who affiliate with Antifa and cause violence and property destruction should be condemned - they are NOT fighting fascism, they are making the country worse. And the Antifa ideology isn't just anti-fascism, it's also anarcho-communist, and this should also be condemned. No one wants Antifa any more than the Proud Boys.

And the Proud Boys? They're even worse. Don't think I'm giving them a pass here.

That is horrifying. I do see that MPD has made a couple of arrests and is investigating the burning/stealing of the BLM flag as a possible hate crime.
