We're taking about groups engaged in illegal activities. It's up to police discretion whether or not to take action. For example, most MPD will choose not to enforce driving while texting laws. In this case, MPD chose to crack down on BLM protestors for violating curfew, but chose not to crack down on fascist protestors for equal violations. It's completely backwards and has nothing to do with the constitution. The proud little boys come here to pick fights, not peacefully protest.
Really? Are you sure you want to advocate that? So you're OK with the police arresting young black men for walking down the street smoking a joint, but not white men? After all, they're both engaging in illegal activity, and the police have discretion to act or not. How about a black man carrying a gun v a white man carrying a gun? And you're fine with the police shooting a black man who resists arrest, but calmly talking down a white man who does the same thing? After all, they have discretion, right? You may want to revisit this position - "police discretion" rarely is helpful to minority communities.
I don't think you can get rid of police discretion. Robo-cop? Automated cameras? But even automation requires people to automate it. Since police have a track record of using discretion to hurt minorities, how about we switch that around to discretion to promote justice. It would require real leadership, so not Mayor Bowser.
Do DC police? Really? Can you cite their 'track record' of 'hurting minoroties'? TIA!
