Agree with assertion that there needs to be an equal hand as to "crackdown" policies and procedures by Bowser and police.
Please let's not forget the looting and destruction of private and public businesses across this country over the summer. |
DP. I seriously doubt the 'Proud Boys' or whatever they're called have much of a presence on DCUM. In any case, them being racist, while wrong, is not a crime. |
No one said that their racist ideas were a crime. Their illegal actions, paired with their racism, deserve attention from MPD. |
Let's not forget that the worst of the looting was away from the main BLM protests, and may very likely have been opportunistic criminals. The period boys violence was premeditated and the main course of their protest. |
+1 There really does need to be a zero tolerance policy in place for all protesters. Whether you're out there protesting for or against equal rights and justice; exercising your Constitutional rights should not come at the expense of private businesses and those living and working within a given community. Too many people seemingly confuse receiving attention with being heard. |
| The police appeared to do a very good job of keeping the two groups separated. When they came together, appeared to be when violence happened. And it appeared like there were elements of antifa who opportunistically came into town as well looking for a fight with the proud boys. Isn't that what they do with each other? I think it important not to confuse peaceful maga and BLM protestors with these elements. I'm all for curfews, but they weren't exactly respected by protestors this summer . |
Have you looked at who the proud boys are? There's no peaceful protest going on. They are an organization bent on violence. "Antifa", even groups that are organized, only come in to defend. I'd never heard of them until fascists started showing up. Walking down the street in DC, I'd be completely unconcerned about being attached by anti-fascists. I'd be very concerned seeing a group of proud boys coming my way. Their gang initiations include getting into fights. These two are in no way equal. |
| Mayor Bowser is full of sh!t. 2 standards! She loved her little foto opp with Congressman Lewis on "Black Lives Plaza" but treated the Proud Boys with deference. |
|
Simple answer.
This happened because, Proud Boys = All Cops. Period. No exceptions. Cops are a publicly funded rad-right criminal gang. |
evidence for this? |
It’s not “regard” - it’s the First Amendment. The two groups can’t be treated differently by the city based only on their viewpoints. |
Again, for the person late to class:. The first amendment does not protect illegal activities. The proud boys were here to start fights and violated several other laws along the way. It is entirely within MPDs authority to react and they chose not to. |
Look at how many BLM protestors were pepper sprayed, tear gassed, kettles and arrested. There are plenty of articles and videos of that. Did you see the same happen to the proud boys? There are videos of them hitting people and MPD not doing anything about it. They defaced church property, and MPD did nothing about it. Have you looked at what happened this past weekend? |
I just don’t see evidence for that. |
The BLM protests were much bigger and engaged in organized and planned civil disobedience (like jumping over fences) and also propety destruction. Proud Boys were smaller and did not apparently plan high-profile civil disobedience. So I am not surprised if the number of arrests are smaller. It seems possible that there is a difference in enforcement but I wouldn’t make conclusions based on out-of-context videos you found on Twitter. |
