And in this case, the instigators were the so-called "counter protesters" -- the larping Antifa losers who absolutely do NOT believe in free speech (or democracy) and gather illegally to attack and/or provoke a violent response. Both sides are moronic idiots deserving of condemnation... but Antifa are worse.

I'm sorry to differ with you, but many Antifa types absolutely DO threaten and attack people. There is tons of video of this, in Portland, MN, and even DC a couple of months ago when Trump supporters gathered.
