Too obvious?

He's angry and exacting vengeance against perceived enemies makes him feel better right now. He may be installing loyalists in the unlikely event legal challenges somehow manage to overturn the election results, but nobody really thinks that will happen. If it did, and Americans revolted, he'd have everything in place to tamp it down. But, again, noone really thinks any of this will actually come to pass.

This sounds about right to me. And according to a PP might be as much about Afghanistan policy as anything domestic.

Trump cares about Afghanistan at this point?

Trump cares about Russia at every point.

So what's the plan?

Withdraw from Afghanistan?
Withdraw from Korea?
Withdraw from Europe?
Attack Iran?

What else was on Trump/Putin's wishlist that reasonable people wouldn't let him do?

This has "wag the dog" all over it.

Please don’t bring up Afghanistan into this. The neocon adventure there was a massive failure with no exit strategy and no concept of what victory is from day 1. It remains a failure to this day. Our aggression caused untold death and misery for so many Afghans and worthlessly squandered our troops lives and wasted our money. If Trump packs us up from there, fine. It was never a noble cause except for the Rumsfelds, Cheneys, and others who sought to profit from the suffering and death.

Trump is a traitor to our nation. Anybody who still supports him needs some mental health counseling.

Our military adventurism is Afghanistan was and is a complete quagmire, to use a phrase we warned of in 2002. The neocons got us into the mess with no thought to an exit strategy or what winning looked like. The Pentagon still after 20 years hasn’t figured it out. Sorry time to leave.

This is the worst part of our withdrawal. Honestly, I'd support amnesty for all Afghan women - no men. I know that's unrealistic, but still.
