So we are all supposed to stay home and homeschool? Is that the only way to be a real parent? |
I don’t know how to put this, but you need to develop a stronger senese of efficacy. These are all issues that can be surmounted. Stop acting helpless. |
wanting my kid to get an education while I earn a living is “hobby parenting.” ok. |
I really truly wonder how many parents who refuse to accept the situation are white. BIPOC parents care that our children are statistically more likely to be affected. I am not sure white parents care. |
Because with the death of neighborhood schools most kids will be reliant on public transportation to get to school, which would be a disaster. Also, Deal educates 25% of ALL middle school aged children and it will be impossible to provide any meaningful in person instruction there before there is a vaccine. Both these issues are, in theory, easily fixable but require political will. |
This. How many are coming from a place of privilege? 75% of people in ward 7/8 are obese. This virus predominantly kills people of color. The most affected areas are people of color. Regardless if everyone DIES from Covid-19, is it ethical to allow someone who has a higher risk to risk getting Covid even if they’ll survive? |
White person here living in a predominantly black/ Latino ward. While I’m sure there’s plenty of white folk in upper NW who have an attitude of exceptionalism and don’t think they can catch the virus in their affluent bubble, there’s a ton of people in my neighborhood not social distancing or wearing masks who are also not at work. They’re partying or hanging or whatever and yeah they’re obese too. Sorry, I know calling this out doesn’t fit the SJW narrative but let’s be real. In my ward it’s not White people at the pick up basketball or soccer games. It’s not the white people hanging out in large groups in the alleys and on the corners. It’s not the grocery store workers or UPS guys either. |
Yep and a racist one at that. I am mixed and live in a gentrified as hell area. White people are also doing those same things. But cute you think only people of color are outside without a mask. |
so you think it’s ethical for kids to get schooling based on whether they are rich enough to pay for private school? |
All white. They’ve never had a hardship that someone didn’t owe them an explanation for. |
Did you think the inequity of ward 7/8 schools compared to other wards was ok? Do you think gentrification as it stands today is ok? Do you think that having the closest 'grocery' near you be 711 is ok and then shame people when they wonder why the 'cheap' Whole Foods didn't do well? Yea, this is so about rich families who ALWAYS experience privilege regardless. Nice deflecting. Pretty sure private schools don't continue school with gas leaks, have class in rooms with no window, run out of soap, have kids who break glass windows, threaten to commit suicide or kill another student, etc, etc, etc. They are so much more prepared, why? Money, that the rich pay for. We bought into capitalism and now we lay in it. This is capitalism. Now that middle class non-POC families are effected it's an issue? |
Do you think we have to fix gentrification before kids in Ward 7 and 8 can go back to school? Does every school have to go through a 3-year long renovation first? Do we have to fix all the ills of capitalism before the kids in Ward 7 and 8 can go back to school? Seriously? WTF. You're ABSURD. |
I guess the question is if COVID was disproportionately killing white, upper middle class Americans would you be as adamant about reopening schools? Would you be willing to take the risk, and ask educators to take the risk, if you personally saw how it was impacting your community? |
Is this really a question you need someone to answer? |
Blame the teacher’s union. Bowser should take them to task but is rolling over. I mean, NYC is open for chrissake!!! |
