No, she was actually fat as a child. She lost the weight late in high school. |
Not beautiful, but I am naturally thin with a pretty face. I can always tell when women hate me because I’m thinner and/or more attractive. It used to hurt my feelings because I just wanted friends. I got over it. Now I feel bad for them, especially as we all get older and I just can’t imagine what the point of caring about that stuff is anymore.
I know lots of very successful, happy women who aren’t beautiful. Agree that being rich and white is a far greater advantage than being pretty. |
I would rather be born with money than good looks. And also a magnetic personality. |
Quotation marks were used. |
I have been the target of women like you in the work place. It's not pretty, pardon the pun.
Luckily, because I'm honest, decent and a nice person it has always backfired on them. Being pretty in a STEM-field is no joke. |
OP, I believe theyve done studies that show women have a much harder time in the workplace if they’re good looking if women are involved in hiring decisions or are their manager. The grass is always greener. Also, people are dumb and often confuse lots of makeup and good hair with beauty. You can achieve that if you try. |
My parents never placed an emphasis on my beauty. They encouraged me to do hard things and to always be capable of earning my own living.
I was a competitive athlete, a top student and thrive in a STEM-field. It's a fallacy that pretty people don't have to work for what they get and that life is a cake walk. Let me tell you, there is a big prejudice AGAINST attractive women in the science labs and fields. It's assumed you are not bright if you don't own Birkenstock s and wear make-up. |

I know some naturally beautiful women who have led relatively awful lives. I think part of the problem was that they relied solely on looks and failed to develop a sense of self or a real personality, they became narcissistic, bitter, ignorant, insufferable, depressed, broken people. Looks aren’t everything. It’s cliche but honestly you can’t judge a book by its cover. |
I always hold up Geena Davis as a role model, because she started out as a model, then became an actress, then took up archery and went to the Olympics. I thought she was also an astronomer but I couldn't find that on google. Anyway, whenever she's on tv I shout for my kids to come see her, and they say, "We know, we know, she's the one who was in the olympics." Too bad they're boys. But maybe they'll each end up with a beautiful woman who's also exceptional in other ways. Or not. I don't care.... |
Average looking mom here, married to an average looking husband, who are parents of a strikingly beautiful daughter and son as well (by a fluke of nature or unique gene combination we suppose): what I have learned from them is that certain people, and often female teachers, can say terrible and mean, spiteful accusatory things to "beautiful" students. Comes with the territory apparently. |
My MIL is naturally beautiful, she could definitely have been a model, she is, and always has been, gorgeous. She is 70 and people will still comment on her beauty. She resembles Christy Brinkley. However, she is mentally unstable, uneducated, on welfare, has substance abuse issues, and has never been able to have any long term relationships with anyone, including her family. I am her average looking DIL and I feel sorry for her. I am there for her if she needs to talk and we try to help her out as much as we are able. Her looks haven’t helped her in any way. Her daughter, my SIL, is also beautiful, and also not the most stable person. It’s sad, but I prefer to just be average and happy, than gorgeous and a hot mess. |
It’s funny that so many posters assume that most beautiful women have disastrous personal lives. |
What did you and your DH look like when you were your kids' age? It's rare for beautiful kids to grow up to be beautiful adults. |
Most beautiful women really are narcissistic. They spend too much time worrying about the way they look to be taken seriously, unless their profession is based on looks. Have you listened to actresses when they don't have scripts to read or a director? They sound so stupid. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some women make clothes look good, but they aren't good looking themselves. |
