I assume some people have no clue and just get them because they like them, so I try to give some benefit of the doubt but usually it is a certain type of person who has these.

This.
Also some of the neo Nazis in Charlottesville Were carrying it alongside the confederate flag.

Funny/interesting how you never see a woman buy this idiotic license plate for her car.

They are almost always paranoid white males who think everyone is coming for their rights. When in reality, they have the most liberties - more so than women and minorities - who have always had their freedoms restricted or at least questioned.

- pothead
- gun nut
- a racist "all lives matter" moron
- 4chan incel
- man it really just looks like a poop gif/emoji

Nobody has the plate primarily because they support things like: reproductive rights and freedom, or true and real equality for all.

Exactly. The true downtrodden people don't have that plate and the typically white, cisgender men who have that plate tend to be the least downtrodden members of American society. Unless you consider having to give people different from you equal rights and basic dignity equivalent to oppression.

The Gadsden flag was actually really cool once. As a history nerd I always loved it and even had one up in my dorm room.

Unfortunately it’s been completely co-opted by a bunch of toothless moron racist cosplay dipshits, so I wouldn’t use it anymore. I’m even a libertarian and also happen to be a bit of a gun guy; by all rights I should be target audience. But yeah, you’ve gotta read the room a little bit. In 2020 America, everybody knows who you’re trying to align with when you put this on your car. I want nothing to do with it and would be embarrassed to have it on my car.

When I google, there's a few articles saying that people think it's racist, but that hasn't been my experience. The guys I know that have the flags/shirt are usually ex military and one of DH's friends is black with the sticker on his Jeep

Other people's thoughts?

When I see people with that license plate or The bumper sticker on their car, I do think of them as racist. I also associate them as likely Trump supporters and generally the type of people who put themselves and their needs before others or the community. I didn’t always feel that way but now in the era of Trump and having met a few of these types, I do see a connection.

I am also more weary of white police officers and white military guys. Again, it’s just because of personal experiences the past few years. I did not always feel this way. But now I really try to avoid interaction. I am just uncomfortable. I feel bad about it sometimes because not every police office or military guy is bad.

High correlation with authoritarian personality disorder and probably with racism. This is probably not someone you want to hang out with and discuss books or art.

I have one, and also a PhD and thousands of books. Happy to meet at the Sackler to discuss Asian art when they’re open again.

Lol, absolutely not interested in wasting any time interacting with you.

Also let me just say I’m extremely not surprised that “Asian” is your go-to art choice.

OP is definitely also Asian.

? where are you getting that from. I know zero Asian Americans who would have that bumper sticker on their car. Most of them have stuff that do with their kids' education like "My kid is an honor roll student" or religious symbols like the Christian "fish" sign.

And I'm not sure about the ^^PP PhD person who likes Asian art. But even if true, that doesn't mean anything.. you can still be a pro-gun nut job with some personality disorder. I mean look at Ted Kaczynski - highly intelligent white dude who was a serial killer.

This was a tea party thing, that’s turned into Trumpsters. Def racist undertones

Is DH frequently confused?

I work for a federal agency and there are a number of care in our government subsidized garage with those license plates.

The first time I saw that plate it looked like a pile of crap.

I have always figured that people who get that plate are NRA members, and that the Second Amenmrnt is their consuming issue. Nothing else.

I'm a woman and got a don't tread on me license plate, but that was about 15 years ago now. I liked the look and the history. I would never get one now... It's come to mean your a racist Trump supporter. That's what everyone will think when they see it.

Everyone I know with the tea party plates are racists and Trump supporters. I'm sure there are a few others who aren't, but I haven't met them yet.
