Don't tread on me license plate

Libertarians are kind of turds. The Gadsen flag kind of looks like a Poo. I think it’s an appropriate choice.

White dudes who “hate government” but love government paychecks definitely know what it means.

Want to see irony? Go to Langley or the Pentagon and count the number of Don’t Tread On Me license plates. El-Oh-Elle.

It’s not ironic. It dates back to the revolutionary war. It is a symbol of US patriotism. It came back into popularity after 9/11.
So many of the people that have the symbol on their car think they’re just being patriotic.
However, many in the tea party use that flag, and it started making its way over to the white supremacist type.

Yes it was historical. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag

But so was the Ok sign, used by campers and scuba divers but usurped by White Power. https://www.npr.org/2019/09/26/764728163/the-ok-hand-gesture-is-now-listed-as-a-symbol-of-hate

Whatever it means, lots of liberals (myself included) look down on it with disgust. So whether we are right or wrong to do so is irrelevant. What matters is if you/he care. In this area, if he's not racist or Trumpet, it seems like the wrong message to send because many will misinterpret it as that.

I think you should let him get the plate. Just don’t ride in the car with him.

African-Americans:
Does seeing that license plate make you nervous or trigger you in some way? I’ve never seen a person of color with this license plate. It’s always been a white man or woman. Lots of Jeeps and big pickup trucks.

I’d love to hear the reactions of people of color.

message.

"Context is always key," Segal said. "More people than not will use the OK symbol as just 'OK.' But in those cases where there's more underlining meaning, I think it's important for people to understand that it could be used, and is being used, for hate as well."

Say that he can use he plate if he gets a Black Lives Matter bumper sticker to put next to it. That would cause some head scratching.

Libertarians should be opposed to police brutality after all.

Yes, I give these people a very wide berth. The DMV won't straight up issue stars and bars license plates, so this is the next best thing.

My spouse is a Vet and makes fun of people with those license plates. He thinks they are mosy often chicken hawks

I associate them with Trumpy types and have a negative reaction. I’ve seen too many people with these who also have NRA, Trump, QAnon bumper stickers and the like. I assume some people have no clue and just get them because they like them, so I try to give some benefit of the doubt but usually it is a certain type of person who has these.

My Black neighbor has one... but he’s also a drug dealer so I’m sure he doesn’t want anyone to tread on his business.

It’s a fine plate. Makes me think the person is stand offish and that’s about it

My interpretation is this: “don’t you ever tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’m an a*hole”
