Don't tread on me license plate

Anonymous
When I see the "don't tread on me" plate I think 5 things.

- pothead
- gun nut
- a racist "all lives matter" moron
- 4chan incel
- man it really just looks like a poop gif/emoji

Nobody has the plate primarily because they support things like: reproductive rights and freedom, or true and real equality for all.

Agree, the license plate is a dog whistle. Just like the term “states’ rights” in the white-dominated South in the 1960s-80s.

I have no idea what it means. I doubt many people know what it means, and they certainly don't care.

White dudes who “hate government” but love government paychecks definitely know what it means.

Want to see irony? Go to Langley or the Pentagon and count the number of Don’t Tread On Me license plates. El-Oh-Elle.

High correlation with authoritarian personality disorder and probably with racism. This is probably not someone you want to hang out with and discuss books or art.

I have one, and also a PhD and thousands of books. Happy to meet at the Sackler to discuss Asian art when they’re open again.

This. The flag doesn't stand for "individual rights," it stands for a particular ideology. Just like the Civil War wasn't about "states' rights" in general, it was about states' rights to enforce slavery and compel people in other states to assist with capturing and returning fugitive slaves. (Indeed, the Confederate constitution forbid any state in the Confederacy to ban slavery.)

I think racist and dumb. Or just clueless when I see a minority.
Coworker has him and I’m pretty sure it cost him a promotion. Can’t ever prove it. But, also, nobody cares.

So you can't stand for personal freedom and also work for the govt?

That's crazy. It's not like he is flying the confederate flag. I had no idea these plates are now deemed offensive by the woke crowd. I wonder how many people actually know that this is a thing.

I agree that the don’t tread on me isn’t supposed to be racist / Trump supporter. But over the last 4 years, that is what it has become.
I would not put one on my car.

+1 sorry, but like the R party, it's been taken over by Trumpsters.

there's irony in that, though, don't you think. Cops and government don't let you do whatever the f* you want. There are limitations to personal freedom. There are just different degrees. If you want to carry a gun, you can, but that doesn't mean you can have a nuclear weapon.

They've always been offensive, even before Trump.

Is DH frequently confused?

OP here. He's not a vet or a cop... He's not an anarchist either.

And "anti-government sentiments with a license plate issued by a government entity"- doesn't the DC plate state "taxation with out representation"?

Taxation without representation is NOT anti-government. It is literally thousands of people asking to participate in their OWN government.

Pre-Trump they were co-opted by the Tea Party. So I think Tea Party (do we still have these?) now Trumpster.

The license plate is just saying boundaries are important. That's it.

I'm sticking with the generic license plate, but I respect "don't tread on me" sentiments. Nothing hurtful or offensive about the message.
