Gym reopening - what was it like?

Anonymous
12:46 - if I were you, I'd try going at times when people who telework would typically have meetings. 10:00, 11:00, 2:00. Those are really popular meeting times at my office, so I'd never get to the gym during those times.

I've been going at 7:00 when they open, as have all the people that were showing up at 5:30 a.m. before CV19.

Thanks. That's exactly what I was wondering.

I had at least 10 ft. b/t me and any other person on a treadmill/machine.

They give you a spray bottle of disinfectant to take around the weights machines. I used that to spray and wipe every machine I used both before and after I used it. They had taken about half of the machines out of service. They also removed the big mats that are used for stretching. I wish they had left those b/c I could have sprayed those down (unlike the carpet -- which I couldn't spray down) before stretching.

Anyway -- there weren't a ton of people there, but some. I generally kept my distance from others. I always have washed my hands with soap before I leave the gym. So, I think it was a pretty good experience.

If it had as many people as it usually has on a Sat. or Sun. morning -- then I wouldn't want to be there. But, with fewer people going, and it being a pretty big space (ceiling is like 3 stories high), I feel it was a reasonable activity.

I am going back on Monday for yoga. I assumed everyone would wear a mask -- but after being there yesterday -- I doubt that anyone in yoga will wear a mask.

Oh, they also had marked out circles of 6 ft. diameter in the group exercise room. So you know where your space is.

What time of day did you go? Just wondering if there is a time of day that has fewer people in general....

Back in normal times, early afternoon was generally light. And Thursday mornings tend to have less. But I went on a Friday, and it was pretty light last week. As people start going back, I'm sure it will be more crowded. I wouldn't go on a wknd.

* TWO off, one on. Two empty machines on either side of your cardio machine.

Not in MD, you must wear a mask and they have strict capacity limits.

Good lord. If you don’t want to go, then don’t go. No one is just going back to normal just like that. We are easing into it and right now that allows extremely reduced capacity at a normal place. No is telling you to go. Virginia numbers have been good even with all the weeks gyms have been open.

I have been twice to OneLife Fitness. In Montgomery County, masks are required at all times (except in the pool). It is really hard working out with the mask but I would keep it on even if it was not a requirement. Every other cardio equipment is off and they have hospital grade sanitary wipes everywhere. I wipe the machine before and after use. No locker room access unless it is to go to the rest room. And temperature checks at the door each time.

I heard from a friend that even though masks are required in moco, a bunch of people weren't wearing them. He felt uncomfortable and is going to put his membership on hold because people aren't taking this seriously

I went the day my gym opened (Tuesday) and went back Friday. I went at lunchtime. The first time I was one of two people there other than staff. The second time I was one of four. The manager told me it's busier in the mornings.

They did temp checks at the door and asked me a bunch of questions about possible exposure. The rule is that you have to wear a mask while you're not exercising and as far as I could tell everyone was following it. Every other cardio machine was powered down to enforce social distancing. I disinfected my machine after using it, and then they came around behind me and did it again.

I felt totally safe and will continue to go, as long as they continue to be diligent about cleaning and distancing. I use the treadmill, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using weights.

As soon as the numbers start to tick up, there will be spikes at gyms. There's no way group classes are safe right now.

You are a moron. And I am a former OT member. Love it. But can you create a stupider environment for this disease. Idiot.

I see on cnn.com that 200 people from a gym in West Virginia are now being asked to quarantine.

I went today bros with a n-95 and surgical gloves. Hit squats and rows . My legs are sore as anything and there were maybe 5 souls (all millennials) in there. Never seen a gym so clean in my life. Not sure I’ll go back after that planet fitness fiasco

Disagree. At LAFitness, the circles ar 10 ft in diameter. The door remains open at all times. Classes like yoga and pilates are very low risk.
