For those that went - are the showers/steam rooms/saunas open?

Went to Orangetheory this afternoon. It was a small class - only 5 people - and we were all 10+ feet apart and never shared equipment. There are 30 or more minutes between classes. It felt nice to be back.

My gym doesn’t have those anyway.

Me: I went. They took my temperature up front. Gave me a spray bottle and cloth to wipe equipment. About 15 people there. I worked out. It was satisfactory. I shall return.

The whole temperature taking thing is not particularly effective screening, since an estimated third of COVID-19+ people don't get fevers.

asymptomatics are unlikely to transmit the virus

How is OTF going to stay afloat with 5 people per class? I love OTF but I am worried about how all gyms will survive.

Why do the Debbies feel the need to respond if they have nothing to add but their unsolicited paranoia?

[And yes, we all know some of you will not return unless there's zero covid and all vaccine, but your comment isn't going to be useful so maybe resist your the impulse]

I did a walk through. It kind of creeped me out. Staff wore masks. I wore a mask. Another lady wore a mask. The rest of the people and it was a lot of people did wear a mask.

You really shouldn't be wearing a mask while exercising. I can understand if it bothers you to go to the gym, but it's not the smartest idea to wear a mask while working out.

Some trainers have had people wear masks for years. The idea being that you learn to work out with less oxygen intake and then when you take off the mask you are able to do the same task faster/stronger/better.

Right. They've been training and working on adapting people while wearing sports-approved masks.

They're not joe schmoe jumping into working out with a mask -- that's some homemade gizmo from Etsy.

I went to swim. Lots of swimmers but the gym seemed empty while I was there. Gyms have been opened in other states for a month now and are not seeing outbreaks directly related to gyms . Don't go if you are worried. I am not ready to eat inside a restaurant but walking from front desk to pool and out felt like a risk I was willing to take. We will all need to decide for ourselves but with no treatment or vaccine, we may have to accept we will most likely get it unless you never leave your home. I am anxious to see how the virus spreads with all these protests.

In March, I remember Fauci saying we were all going to get it but we need to flatten the curve. It all made sense to me and I assumed the area under the curve was the same. Obviously I do not want to be sick or have a family member get sick, but this may be our new life. We are a very entitled society who expect medical experts to fix everything. I hope a vaccine occurs but can't wait to read how no one wants to get the vaccine because of possible unknown side effects. I would expect cases to increase once we open and have more testing available. Not sure why everyone thinks we could just get rid of it.

Medicine has done a great job at extending our lifespans but it really can't fix everything. I do not feel confident a proven vaccine will be available soon. I am more hoping that treatments become available and the virus mutates so it is not as deadly. I am also one of those people that believes it is much more widespread than we think which makes death rate lower. This is one of the few diseases we now are testing asympomatic cases 'just to to see'. I know some surgeons do blood work before procedures to check for hepatitis, HIV, diabetes, etc we don't usually just test people to see if they have a flu virus or cold virus with no symptoms. I had a surgery last year and no blood work was done at all. I am in my late 40s and haven't had blood work done in five years. I do think I need to get things checked and was surprised it wasn't ordered. I had general. I consider myself healthy but who knows...I think I need to go get some blood work done now

I didn’t respond (until this), didn’t go and don’t plan to for awhile, but your response made me laugh - the 6 responses you cite are so dcum.

I get tested for HIV/STIs and screened for diabetes and hypertension annually although I'm otherwise asymptomatic. This is pretty standard practice.

I went for yoga, but had the wrong time, and didn't want to wait more than an hour for the yoga class to start. I was not intending to use the weights and treadmill.... but I figured I was there and gave it a try. (the is LA Fitness).

I had at least 10 ft. b/t me and any other person on a treadmill/machine.

They give you a spray bottle of disinfectant to take around the weights machines. I used that to spray and wipe every machine I used both before and after I used it. They had taken about half of the machines out of service. They also removed the big mats that are used for stretching. I wish they had left those b/c I could have sprayed those down (unlike the carpet -- which I couldn't spray down) before stretching.

Anyway -- there weren't a ton of people there, but some. I generally kept my distance from others. I always have washed my hands with soap before I leave the gym. So, I think it was a pretty good experience.

If it had as many people as it usually has on a Sat. or Sun. morning -- then I wouldn't want to be there. But, with fewer people going, and it being a pretty big space (ceiling is like 3 stories high), I feel it was a reasonable activity.

I am going back on Monday for yoga. I assumed everyone would wear a mask -- but after being there yesterday -- I doubt that anyone in yoga will wear a mask.

Oh, they also had marked out circles of 6 ft. diameter in the group exercise room. So you know where your space is.

12:22 here.

I just want to say that I think my experience is representative of a lot of experiences (particularly school).... I had thought it would be too risky to use the real gym and hadn't intended to do it. But, then when I got there and did it, it was different, but did NOT feel "risky."

I think a lot of us have fears about doing X, b/c we haven't done X for 3-4 months. But, if you take precautions and do X, then you get over the fear.

That said, if some people want to stay away -- it's all the better for me. Now that I know how it works, there's more space for me if nervous people stay away.
