A lot of wishful thinking goes into the people insisting youth soccer will go on as usual this Fall. It's as if they tell themselves and others that it will happen, it actually will. Denial is not just a river in Egypt. |
| Whether we see a rise or not the country is not moving backwards. We will have soccer in the fall with or without you. No hard feelings but this isn't just about soccer. The country felt enough effect from the this shutdown and won't let get back to that point again. |
There is a difference between reopening the country so that people can provide for thier families and engaging in non-essential activities such as youth sports that involve physical contact. I am not against youth sports, but they are no the priority. |
That is correct. Youth sports are not a priority. And, if you are one of the distressed parents who want schools open at all costs so that your future star can play... then screw you. You are probably the type of moron who would still want everything open even if your mother caught Crownvirus. off with your head I would say! |
Its the non essential activities that drive the economy. |
Brilliance on display here, folks. This is what happens when you don’t feel you need to persuade anybody, only bully and bluster. |
Harvard graduate programs are going online. And just another example of you folks living in a bubble, there are thousands of other schools outside of the Ivies. |
|
Folks, if youth sports returns then great. If not, we will be fine. The issue here is these folks living in a bubble. The DC area has been in lockdown and two weeks ago was probably the area that created the most concern at the CDC. Every other place is getting back to normal and folks here are behaving as if there is no end in sight.
If you folks want to hide under your blankets, then feel free to do so, especially if Harvard Divinity School is cancelling classes and going online for the Fall. That must mean the world is ending to the inside-the-beltway crowd. . |
Did you read the article or just the headline. Cases are up because testing has significantly increased. The positivity rate is still below 10%. The fact that people can’t understand the nuance of this situation is why we are having so many problems. Yes, cases will go up when you open up. That’s not a surprise or argument to stay locked in. Locking in early slowed the cases to avoid overwhelming the health system. It wasn’t going to kill the disease. We are likely going to lose many more thousand of people not matter the option you choose unless you lock down until there is a wide-distributed vaccine. Protect yourself and others when you go outside. Elderly should avoid contact. And we will do the best we can. But most people can’t just stop the world and shut down. |
+10000 I really don't understand how/why people can't comprehend this. It's mind boggling. |
| Op here- I was also asking as I was curious if any families who declined travel a month ago had second thoughts and are planning to come back and walk on in September. Im sure the clubs will take everyone. Probably place them back on their old teams. We signed up with much debate and now im glad we did. Feeling a little more optimistic. Hopefully opening up wont increase the + percentages and rain on my parade. |
| We had 2 other sports open up this week and games upcoming in a few weeks. We are feeling optimistic. People are being smart at practices. These are middle schoolers and high schoolers so easier to say use hand sanitizer and don’t touch faces. |

Georgia opened up and they were fine.
On the other hand, Arizona opened up too but their COVID-19 numbers went up. Hence, I hope the DMV is analyzing what GA does so we can open up safely. Maybe is the combination of proper social distancing and humidity/heat. Arizona is dry heat. But I don’t know. |
I think the per capita level of cases makes a big difference in the trajectory of these curves. Arizona has a much lower level of cases than the DC Area and if you take a mitigation approach (Phase 1, Phase 2 etc), you are likely to have some outbreaks and occasional increase in cases from a low level. Our higher level in cases in DC Area will help us with the optics on this. We are going to see (and are seeing) a nice slope down off the peaks in hospitalization. Even with some outbreaks, the optics of the trajectory can still look good because they can be absorbed into the overall stats. You can see this now in how the curve trajectory of the different metrics now look better in northern Virginia than the rest of the state. |
+10000 too. I believe it is the result of lacking of a qualified national leader. Everyone just create their own metrics and interpretation. |
