Would you allow your 16 year old daughter to wear one of those almost thong swimsuits?

Because women wearing this type of clothing encourages objectifying ALL women. Men prefer for women to wear less clothing so some women wearing less clothing makes the standard that ALL women should go to the pool or beach this way.

Young girls wearing this type of clothing sexualizes young girls and signals to men “look at me in a sexual way because I am showing off my ass and boobs.” This in turn encourages men to sexualize all young girls, which is wrong.

No it doesn’t.

Telling women what they wear is responsible for men’s actions hurts ALL women.

What other women wear does not affect what I wear. I wear what I like, not to get a reaction from men. Stop acting like this is how most women function. If you are so insecure that your every decision is to get a reaction from men get therapy.

Your last paragraph is just pathetic. It’s seriously sad you think that way. Most girls wear bikinis because it’s easier to go to the bathroom.

However, my first reaction to this question is - no, I would not allow my teenage daughter to wear an almost thong bathing suit anymore than I would allow her to wear low cut tops with major cleavage (I'm top heavy and assume my daughter would be as well).

I also realize that teenage girl fashion is not always within parental control. Teen girls are old enough to work and buy their own swimsuits.

What bathing suit does not show cleavage.

I am glad I have boys too so I can teach them that bathing suits are not an invitation to gawking. Nor are volleyball shorts, or cheerleading uniforms, or lax skirts, or yoga pants, or ....

eh, some tops are more revealing than others are. And, no, I don't "teach" my sons to gawk at young women nor do they disrespect women so you can get off that high horse hon. I was a pretty, voluptuous, curvy teen who got lots of male attention and I, personally, would not have felt comfortable letting it all hang out. So I doubt that I would feel comfortable seeing my own daughter hanging out of her swimsuit.

So you let men gawk at you instead of standing up for yourself and now your daughter must be responsible for being gawked at or cover up. Got it.

Sweetie. Pretty girls learn early on that people LOOK at them. That includes males and females. There are good things that come with being noticed and there are bad things that come with it.

You can not wear a very revealing outfit or swimsuit and then walk around punching people's lights out for daring to look your way unless that is all you want to do all day. I would wear a bikini to the beach, I would not wear a thong or extremely skimpy top. I get to dress me. You do you.

Okay boomer.

Nah. They objectify themselves and themselves only - which they are free to do that if that is what they want to do. I, personally, would not want that kind of attention nor would I want the judgment that comes along with it.

They are not objectifying themselves.

You are objectifying then and you are an apologist for a generation of kavenaugh men who are not expected to control themselves.

If her opinion was different, I do not know what I could do. I mean, today, we could have world war III, but next year she will be on her own. If she wants to wear that at college, across the drill field in winter, I cannot stop her. Her ass might freeze and fall off, but....

So she does not wear a bikini?

She does not wear a small bikini. Maybe a tankini.

You can still see her cleavage and asscheeks! That is NOT modest.

Do you even know what a tankini is? I have never seen one that shows off cleavage and ass cheeks. It's pretty much against the point of why women wear them.

Just because your daughter might choose to wear a thong in college doesn't seem like a good reason to let her wear one at 16. Your daughter might also choose to drink and smoke weed in college as well. Is that reason to let her start doing it at 16? Some activities just aren't age appropriate, and I would say choosing to flaunt your ass at 16 is one of them.

Every bathing suit has ass showing.

You let your college student drink and smoke pot?

Are posters just being intentionally dense here? Are you really going to claim that you don't know the difference between a bit of butt cheek hanging out of the bottom of a swim suit versus the ENTIRE ASS showing because the backside of the suit consists of nothing more than a piece of fabric going up the crack?

Oh bull. No one is saying that wearing revealing clothes means that you should be raped. Just look at the "People of Walmart" pictures. You will see that people are quite free to wear whatever they want to, wherever they want to. Would I wear some of those gawd awful get ups out in public? No way. No how. I respect myself more than that.

I'm sure they walk around wearing "distressed" jeans that have gaping holes right at the azz, too. Klassy people do Klassy things.

No. women wearing this type of clothing encourages objectifying of THEMSELVES, not all women.

Of course they are objectifying themselves. Why is it so hard for you to believe that there are a certain segment of women who do this.

No one thinks men shouldn't be able to control themselves. But of course heterosexual men are going to be turned on by seeing an attractive female with a good body in a skimpy bikini that shows her entire ass. iAnd it's the entire reason that women choose to wear these types of suits. It's not something a parent should allow a 16 year old to wear.

I think we should require all women to cover all exposed skin and have Separate but equal accommodations. This would solve everything.

I am a lot more mortified by seeing men in speedos than seeing young girls in these bottoms.
