MCPS v FCPS?

When you take that into account, it’s no surprise Terp Boy or whoever else has decided to take up the cause is going to try and promote MCPS over FCPS, but it’s an uphill battle and has been for many years now.

Delusional.
You're right it's an uphill battle because the score is 37-4, MCPS.
Let me know when you get that "handful", then we can start talking.

Just to round this out for context:

Fairfax has more people, a younger population, higher property values, higher percentages of adults with high school and college degrees, lower social services assistance payments, higher retail sales, more jobs, shorter commutes, higher median household incomes, more National Merit Semifinalists, higher average SAT scores, a larger and stronger STEM magnet, and a lower poverty rate than Montgomery.

Montgomery has more wins in a 25-minute quiz show that, like so many things in that county, almost went out of business recently.

LOL
Yes you do have a larger STEM magnet but not stronger. MCPS crushes not just FCPS but the whole NoVa when it comes to STEM awards and scholars.
They do lot more with less

Cite evidence.

FCPS sends more kids to HYPS. They have more schools in the top 200 nationally. They have more schools in the top 10 statewide.

But since Terp Boy is so butt hurt, let's cite better evidence:

VA gave nothing compared to the MD incentives to get HQ2. With HQ2, we're also getting Apple, Microsoft, and other tech companies now. Why? Because our schools are better. Like literally waaaay better. And no one in their right mind will live in MCPS and commute to Crystal City when they can have FCPS schools instead.

Give it up. HoCo looks a million times better than MCPS at this point. At least they know how to differentiate bias from fact.

Then it begs the question why can FCPS win it if they are that great? With that larger and stronger STEM and all? It's not for lack of trying.

Most things I saw related to having an airport and the Pentagon which has huge contracts with them.

And why is the proportion of students in MCPS who got on to the more elite universities higher than FCPS. Please don't say FCPS has great in state univ. That is just pathetic to compare GMU to the more well regarded univ. There's nothing wrong with the in state univ, but if you are going to compare like or like, you cannot seriously compare VA in state (or MD in state) to the higher rated univ.

So, a greater proportion of MCPS students go to "elite" colleges, however the hell that is defined, than do FCPS's yet FCPS has higher average SAT scores. The only thing I can conclude from that is that MCPS moms are just more generous giving BJs to admissions officers than are FCPS moms.

PS: Please don't drive on our side of the river. We have children playing here.

Of course a jealous, low brow person would say this. Sorry you have a chip on your shoulder.

FCPS has lower FARMs rate than MCPS, and that is reflected in the SAT scores. Given that FCPS has lower FARMs rate, I would expect proportionally more kids from FCPS to go to better colleges than those from MCPS, but that's not what the numbers are showing.

Also, a PP is correct about Amazon HQ2. They picked areas that were close to an airport, which is why they had also picked NYC (if you look at where they picked, it was right next to LGA I think). It has nothing to do with how many kids go to TJ, I assure you.

Seriously, if you want to measure the quality of Montgomery County based on a quiz show rather than the statistics that speak to Fairfax's:

* higher growth
* younger population
* higher property values
* higher percentages of adults with high school and college degrees
* lower social services assistance payments
* higher retail sales
* higher employment
* shorter commutes
* higher median household incomes
* greater number of National Merit Semifinalists
* higher average SAT scores
* larger and stronger STEM magnet, and
* lower poverty rate

then go for it.

Clearly more people in Montgomery than Fairfax cared about what Sophie Altman thought would help teenagers show off.

This thread is also being read by more VA parents then MD parents as it is in a VA forum so skewed results.

By your own admission, you have "higher quality" families, so why the lower numbers in representation in STEM competitions and top univ?

While it is true that MCPS has higher FARM rate at 33%? or something and FCPS with 28%. the actual numbers are about same. FCPS does have about 30k more kids but considering higher property rating and others it is understandable that they have lower percentage wise in FARMS.

While I have been throwing numbers in previous pages to show FCPS is better (and let's not use this graduation rate of HYPS) as I'm honestly not sure how that data was gathered.
I must say that MCPS did come long ways in last decade to be on par with FCPS and it is more surprising considering that in MCPS only about 50% passes grade level standard test between 3-8 grade but
their average SAT scores show that they are doing something right in their high school.

FCPS has lower FARMs rate than MCPS, and that is reflected in the SAT scores. Given that FCPS has lower FARMs rate, I would expect proportionally more kids from FCPS to go to better colleges than those from MCPS, but that's not what the numbers are showing.

Even though FCPS has a larger STEM, MCPS crushes them every year in STEM.

FCPS has a whole school dedicated to STEM but they couldn't field even 1member of USAMO, just one.

No, they don't. MCPS has higher rate

They have more schools in the top 10 statewide.

??????????
Ok! I'm scratching my head here. What does that have to do with MCPS? They are in Maryland.
FCPS having a lot in the top 10 means that they are good in VIRGINIA only, no competition there and the state of schools in Virginia.

Amazon? I guess you need amazon to make your state relevant but the FACT is FCPS and VA trail MCPS and MD in STEM.
