That stinks, OP. We met our "tribe" of mom friends when our older son transitioned from daycare in DC to preschool in Rockville. Our son is now 6 and going into first grade and these were the women I called up when my wife (we're a same sex couple to avoid confusion) celebrated her birthday a few months ago and they came through with an amazing surprise appearance during our night out. Hoping things get easier for you. |
what state? |
Sounds like they're friends who have known each other for years. They're cliquish to you simply bc you want that inner circle friendship and repitoire.
You come across as a judgemental and prickly person OP and it shows ever so subtly. |
The matching moms found you, OP. |
Omg hahaha. Is this DC’s version of Portlandia? Because I’m here for it. |
An exurb of DC? I’m horrified. I will not be wearing matching shirts to any kid’s party, ever. |
OP - where do you live? Need to know if it's in the DC area or not!!
*I'm horrified, by the way. We've been dealing with cliques in our local preschool and now elementary, too (DC area) but nothing this extreme. It's more like "these four girls are dance class, soccer club, and swim lessons together, oh, and we all joined the same pool!" and once we were invited, there were so many inside jokes that DH and I just felt dumb. |
Matching outfits?! That is so weird. So grown women calling each other to coordinate what they wear to a b-day party? I mean that is really, really weird! My 18 year old dd is kind of coordinating what she and her friend are wearing to Moonrise, but they are not matching it, they are all hoping to stand out. |
I am not OP and I am judging these grown women that match outfits. It sounds like they are brainless twits. |
I had this exact experience in Alexandria! Moved to Bethesda and everyone is so much nicer.. it’s like opposite land. So weird. I think everyone here is successful so this nonsense stops. And almost all the moms work. |
Guessing you won’t make progress with them after they read your post here, right? |

Exurbs of DC are soul sucking places. |
Dumb for wanting to be part of it so badly? |
Leave the bubble every now and then, maybe. |
