Strongly disagree with this.

Why? Bruce Monroe has a lot more going for it than unproven MV8.

BM has good PARCC too check our recent scores.

I would probably take BM over MV8. But talk to your neighbors, and quick!

Definitely BM. Most DCI spots will go to siblings, as a non-sibling you are much less likely to get in.

Oh come on. No data to support above. Highly doubt it. A number of families peel off for burbs. Plus DCI is already approved to expand. Pray tell what amazing middle school does BM feed into?

NP. Please share a link or citation from PCSB re DCI expansion approval. I’ve been following closely but haven’t seen an application, much less approval.

Their enrollment cap is high enough, but they would still need an approved facility. That is the issue.

Yes their approved cap is much higher than current expected enrollment from feeders so that’s what I mean by approved. With the high demand already now, I would not be surprised if they did expand but it would have to be at another location because I don’t think there is room at the current campus. The easy way to do it is the new location could be the middle school and current location high school or vice versa.

The higher ceilings you are referring to will fill the current campus, which as you said won't fit larger cohorts from the feeders. Additionally, each feeder has a fixed number of spaces available for its students at DCI. Those quotas and the DCI charter's ceilings are not large enough to accommodate the larger cohorts at Stokes and MV UNLESS a) there is far larger attrition from feeder schools to DCI than has been the case and or b) DCI decides to expand.

DCI is well aware of the expansions at MV and Stokes, and that is why MV and Stokes have explicitly told parents of new ECE students that there is no longer a guarantee. DCI administrators told the PCSB parent advisory group last year that there is no expansion plan on the table, that they need to 'perfect their model' first.

Of course, that could all change in 7 or 8 years. But if you want 100% certainty for your 3 yo, you don't have it.

Of course we all know it’s not 100% but it’s 60-80% and statistically it’s a hell of a lot better than 0% at the IB middle school for us.

THIS. Much, much higher chance of getting into DCI than MacFarland being a viable choice in middle school in the next 7 years with such terrible scores.

All the middle class families we know are not going to their IB school, bailing in K, or for sure upper elementary if they had bad lottery numbers. Absolutely no one is continuing into their feeder middle school in our neighborhood. Neither are any of our friends that have other IB middle school feeders. I won’t even go there about how worst the high schools are EOTP.

60-80% chance now and 100% chance if they expand to the cap that they have already been approved. We will take it. For a relatively new school, DCI’s scores are really good and it’s going in an upward trajectory and will get even better.

Not interested in using my child as a testing ground to see how he will do in a very poor performing school. I already know how that will turn out. But those that want to consider it and see, feel free.

I love that DCI is a "relatively new school" in your mind, but Macfarland, which is YEARS newer (I think their first dual language feeder cohort is in 6th grade this year) is a "very poor performing school." Point made.

New poster- IB curriculum has a solid track record. It works.

Dcps has a record of failing its students, ESPECIALLY middle school students.

DCI is starting their 5th year. MacFarland their 3rd year. Sure 2 years difference is “Years” newer. Yep, those 2 years explain the night and day difference between competency of the 2 schools. DCI 61%/41%. Macfarland 24%/12%. Try again.

It’s not just because of dual language either if that’s your answer. It’s a better curriculum with IB and it’s peer groups, which leads to buy in from middle class families. They are clamoring to get into DCI. I can tell you no one is saying I’m looking at Macfarland with those numbers. Doubt any middle class family is putting their kid there, dual language track/feeder or not.

How about we do this. All the BM parents, stop playing the lottery and track to Macfarland, no problem. Leaves less competition for those of us who want MV and DCI. Problem solved!
