My twins, one of whom was #4 on the list, were just (as in, 10 minutes ago) offered a spot at MV 8th street, PK3. The WL is moving, finally!
But also, can anyone give us more insight into the school? We are out of town and won't be able to visit the school prior to having to make this decision... Or other option is Bruce Monroe PK3, Spanish immersion. |
| If BM is your in bound school, I’d go there. Lots of native speakers, strong community, and I think DCPS dual language schools have a lot going for them. |
| We're now at #6... and enrolled currently at EL Haynes. Not sure what choice we are gonna make if we clear this list. Would like to at least tour the school. Would they do that? |
Don’t know anything about BM but if you are planning on staying long term where you are, take middle school into consideration. DCI is not guaranteed but high probability where our neighborhood middle school, probability is 0 of our child going there. |
Strongly disagree with this. |
Why? Bruce Monroe has a lot more going for it than unproven MV8. |
BM has good PARCC too check our recent scores. I would probably take BM over MV8. But talk to your neighbors, and quick! |
Definitely BM. Most DCI spots will go to siblings, as a non-sibling you are much less likely to get in. |
+1 you can always go back to BM if you don’t like MV8. |
Probably not till K Are you Spanish dominant? |
Oh come on. No data to support above. Highly doubt it. A number of families peel off for burbs. Plus DCI is already approved to expand. Pray tell what amazing middle school does BM feed into? |
Also for privates |
| BM feeds into Macfarland Middle, which is specifically a feeder for kids coming from DCPS dual language schools. It's fairly new but I know folks who are bullish on it. I think it has a chance largely because the feeder pattern gives the school a ton of control over the cohort (ie, no kids arriving in 6th grade who are totally unknown). |
NP. Please share a link or citation from PCSB re DCI expansion approval. I’ve been following closely but haven’t seen an application, much less approval. |
Their enrollment cap is high enough, but they would still need an approved facility. That is the issue. |
