OMG-- So in our experience as property crime victims covered by 2nd District Police--not sure if same--police did not canvas, pull video, or anything. In fact, they acted 'put upon' when we visited the station though thankfully allowed that if the crime solved itself, they would get in touch. But as they mentioned many times, we have "insurance" (as if that's some kind of 'free money' that grows from a 'free money' tree). I am not a police basher at all, but did leave wondering if for smaller crimes short of major headlines the force is basically a revenue raising, ticket collecting organization? Why are they not using cameras (including those installed for speeding tickets) to ALSO solve crimes? Why are not they going after the little stuff, or using stake-outs when they see crime patterns, to deter the big stuff? Yeah--if people are stealing packages from porches and I were the Chief of Police, I sure as heck would put a big shiny package on a porch and then sit nearby with my binoculars trained. Why not? And then, as they also mentioned which I sympathize with, why is this stuff not being prosecuted? No, we are not rolling in homicides in Ward 3. I admit it. That's a good thing. But the above is AWFUL. Is there a pattern here that needs to be headed off? ANC? Mary Cheh? Shame! |
| For unknown reasons, Mary Cheh doesn’t care about — and arguably seems to dislike — Cleveland Park. The local elementary school is last in line in Ward 3 for renovation, but has been told not to expect the same type of faculties that other schools got. DC’s aggressive program to place people with serious mental health needs on the east side of Cleveland Oark has coincided with a spike in crime in the neighborhood. Should people expect another increase when the temporary homeless shelter opens on the west side of the community? |
Yes. |
Well, if how they administered this CP program is any indication...

| I have a friend who is a realtor. CP has always had a lot of crime. She always encourages her buys to read the list serv. |
Despite the nearby Second District HQ police patrols around Cleveland Park aren't much of a thing. Patrols are different than just driving through above the speed limit to get somewhere else. Cops walking a beat are almost unheard of. CP could use some targeted - yes, more aggressive — community policing right now. |
| And then people wonder why we move to Arlington. Apparently it’s better to crawl across the bridge and call police and ambulance in an injured state and wait for DC first responders. |
Than wait for DC first responders * |
We live in Upper NW and would call Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. DC Fire & EMS might do something wacky like take you to Howard U Hospital. That happened with a journalist who was mugged and knocked unconscious near his home several years and the DC ambulance driver went to Howard because she wanted to run a personal errand afterward. The man was left to die on a gurney in a Howard hallway. Incompetence (squared). |
This is horrible. Who was the journalist? |
I'm unfortunately very unimpressed by 2nd District. They seem to be reactive (I'd say hand wringer, but more like shoulder shruggers), not proactive to these crime spares. When is the next community meeting and have the found who attacked this elderly woman? |
The worst is that DC later reinstated the ambulance driver: https://www.ems1.com/ems-products/consulting-management-and-legal-services/articles/439623-D-C-EMT-fired-in-Rosenbaum-case-back-to-work/ |
| Theres so much bad stuff going on in DC.... the imbalance of taxes paid and services received is shocking. |
Wow. I can't believe this. |
I can! This is a cesspool run by thugs for thugs. There are no laws to protect the victims. The lawyers are either too stupid or too lazy. There's no fear of any consequences. |
