So in our experience as property crime victims covered by 2nd District Police--not sure if same--police did not canvas, pull video, or anything. In fact, they acted 'put upon' when we visited the station though thankfully allowed that if the crime solved itself, they would get in touch. But as they mentioned many times, we have "insurance" (as if that's some kind of 'free money' that grows from a 'free money' tree). I am not a police basher at all, but did leave wondering if for smaller crimes short of major headlines the force is basically a revenue raising, ticket collecting organization? Why are they not using cameras (including those installed for speeding tickets) to ALSO solve crimes? Why are not they going after the little stuff, or using stake-outs when they see crime patterns, to deter the big stuff? Yeah--if people are stealing packages from porches and I were the Chief of Police, I sure as heck would put a big shiny package on a porch and then sit nearby with my binoculars trained. Why not? And then, as they also mentioned which I sympathize with, why is this stuff not being prosecuted? No, we are not rolling in homicides in Ward 3. I admit it. That's a good thing. But the above is AWFUL. Is there a pattern here that needs to be headed off? ANC? Mary Cheh?  Shame![/quote]
