Delay or cancellation tomorrow?

Any area that handles its own snow removal is far faster than the county. Montgomery Village salted yesterday and plowed early this morning. Black streets all day. Snow routes just outside the neighborhood? Slushy. Adjacent neighborhoods? Not plowed yet. If we want better snow clearing in order for schools to open, we need to advocate for that. But snow removal needs are unpredictable from year to year. Right now, the money gets spent on other things, and we are left with uncertainty and less slack than before in the school system calendar.

When will mcps announce their decision?

We are still not plowed yet either, so it’s likely MCPS will be closed.

Yep

Definitely closed because the roads and parking lots/sidewalks will not be clear by tomorrow.

MCPS parking lots are being cleared as we speak. The one across the street from me is done.

Bethesda and our bus route is still unplowed.

Just got back from diving the Beltway and River Road. It went from completely fine to a challenge in about an hour. I'm sure MCPS will be closed tomorrow; it's now below freezing inside the Beltway and everything that melted earlier will now freeze.

I live two blocks from TPMS and we have not yet seen a plow as of 415 pm

Yeah I just ran to the corner market near RCF elementary. The school isn't cleared and the roads aren't great. My husband was out from 11-130pm and it was perfectly fine then. The storm has picked up just enough to make it slippery even on main roads.

I bet they announce closure tonight. The question will be Tuesday.

I listened to a podcast with The old superintendent and he explained how difficult it is to make these calls. They get up pretty early in the morning I think around three and start assessing the situation. I think they will have some kind of decision by five or six. I’m fairly confident we will have a two hour delay but who knows about a cancellation.

MoCo Show podcast! I loved the shout-out to DCUM.

Clarksburg, Northern Hinterlands here. Little Bennett has not been touched, but main roads are clear. Neighborhood looks good. Not sure about Wims, RH and HW though.

MCPS only looks at whether buses will be able to run, so temp, ice and snow removal on bus routes. Only the third point will pose problems tomorrow.

Based on previous snow removal rates, I highly doubt schools will open tomorrow. They probably will on Tuesday.

MCPS also considers parking lot and sidewalk conditions at the schools, and sidewalks for the students in the "walk zone."

PP you responded to. I have first-hand experience of MCPS opening, and the school sidewalk being impassable, because it's the one us walkers take, not buses or cars. Let's just say MCPS *prioritizes* motorized transportation to school
