Reported hazing incident involving Damascus High School JV Football team

The AD and JV football coach is the worst. I am no longer in Damascus but my children graduated from the HS and played football. They should both be fired.

It's a criminal offense, plain and simple. I live near the school and am so disgusted.

A JV game was forfeited because of this, but nothing whatsoever with Varsity. Why??? That's because they are/have been the state champion??? Disgusting.

Damascus varsity is playing our team (Wootton) tonight. Amazing they are allowed to play tonight.

Did you ever complain to the principal? I would suggest you email the principal, the school athletic director, and the MCPS athletic director so they know the details of what happened to your child.

I think all parents of student athletes need to sit their children down and find out what goes on within teams. I was floored to find out that it's a ritual for boy and girl Lacrosse players at our W school to do cocaine together at the beginning of the season.

Thank you for the heads up. My kid is not in HS yet, but a good reminder to keep an eye out. We’re not at a W school, but drugs are at all the schools.

Has anyone else heard about this?

You mean RAPED with a broom, right?

I highly doubt that is true.

Bunch of jerks? It sounds extremely serious, it is all over the news. Other HS(from other schools) kids have the gory details. Not the fist hushed up offense I head about, and that is just this school year. Not to mention(relatively insignificant) their cheer coach putting down other HS cheer athletes on social media, which shows the mentality of lack of accountability at Damascus.

MCPS really needs to take a hard look at the toxic culture in its athletic programs county wide. Coaches set the tone for the team and there are definitely toxic coaches across the county. For any school, if complaints roll in for multiple teams, leadership of the programs including the coaches, Athletic Director, and Principal should be scrutinized. Ultimately, #weRAISE should be more than just a slogan by MCPS System-Wide Athletic Director, Jeff Sullivan. Cleaning house of the athletic program is needed to protect students in MCPS so hazing, bullying, sexual harassment, and sexual assaults of students is no longer tolerated and covered up.

For those of you who don't know what RAISE is supposed to stand for, its: Respect & Sportsmanship; Academic Excellence; Integrity & Character; Spirited & Safe Competition; Equity & Access.

LCPS has similar issues. The Athletic Directors run the schools.

Believe it or not, that's up to you. I believe my child. Using the news about the Damascus arrest just kind of helped us as a family have the open discussion. Protect your children and talk to them.

My dd is at the school and told me they filmed it and posted online.
That is how they got caught
Apparently someone dropped out of high school because of an incident similar to this at another school, where the school descided to hush up about it.
Just know that the school will want to cover it up if they can

This story has made national news so MCPS won't be able to sweep it under the rug like they have for so many problems. We have an awful athletic department at our school (not Damascus). Students have legit complaints but the school Athletic Director is tone deaf. He is an ex-football jock who turns the table on victims. Students are forced to either shut up or life is hell to the point that they no longer want to participate on a school team.

Awful.
Boys are SO STUPID and aggressive and they need to be seriously supervised.
Some boys did that to a neighborhood teen years ago and he was in the hospital having surgery after surgery for months. I don’t know if he ever fully recovered.

It’s like Georgetown Prep was 20 years ago.
