Was this early decision admit, pp? Curious because I have a ds who wants to attend NYU with 1390 sat and 3.7 uw gpa but can’t do early decision.

Yes - ED to NYU (Tisch). Unfortunately had to decline due to finances - their package was all loans. Things worked out as he is happy where he landed. Good luck to you and your son.

URM?

No.

NP: Tisch is for the performing and media arts. URM or not, if they want you for your talents, they want you.

NYU is looking for full-students. If you are a full pay, they want you.

Oberlin is for artistic/musical students who are also academically talented. They want you for your talent. Oberlin is more willing to invest in their students.

PP last year Oberlin could not fill its class. Many full pay DC kids were shocked to get rejected by NYU. Its fine to say all this based in 5 year old information but make sure that your kid does not end up in the shocked and disappointed by relying on dated information. This area has a ton of full pay kids with A averages from public and private who apply. Its not so easy to be in the 19%.

Oberlin class of 2022 is over filled by at least 100 students so this is dated information.

I guess...

Check the date genius. That was class of 2021.

I did not want not be a jerk but its even lower for the class of 2022 is actually smaller than 2021. Been falling for years and accepting kids with lower ranked in the class. Try to stay current! i know you think NYU is easy but parents on the board just have dated and unsupported viewpoints. If your going to spend 70k or send your kid at least read the material put out by the school. The class of 2021 has 2827 students and class of 2022 has 2785 students. Are you saying that the school is shrinking???? Was a program closed?

Your link didn’t work for me but I can tell you it’s wrong if the data says there are over 2800 students in class of 2021! Oberlin has about 750 per class including the conservatory students. Of course this varies from year to year but it’s not something to freak out about.

Just stop Googling stuff and throwing it out there like you understand what it’s saying. If people want to know about Oberlin there are plenty of families with actual experience there.

New poster the school's information linked above matches your numbers. Glad the school is doing well

But, because of the low aid, it has a reputation for being full of snotty rich kids who aren't that serious about learning and probably aren't great employees. Another problem is that a lot of the West Village looks pretty terrible right now. I would only choose NYU over Oberlin if the NYU aid package were great, being in New York was critical or you knew a specific program was clearly better at NYU.

PP NYU is not located in the West Village, the campus center is Washington Square Park which is iconic and beautiful! That's why when Harry Met Sally, Ghostbusters and so many other movies or TV shows film in Washington Square.

I am sorry you think rich people are lazy and NYU's graduates are lazy too. The major contributions of the University's graduates in so many fields fly in the face of your belief. But if you prefer Oberlin that is awesome just don't admit its a preference or prejudice. (Everyone has them just don't pretend its based on unknown NYU graduates being lazy)

If you check US News, NYU is in the same cluster as mid-level state universities. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities

If you are paying full price or nearly so, I can understand why you need to convince yourself of the value of NYU. To be blunt, I think you are paying premium for its location.

Ok so basically anything below #19 were the diversity score factor caused the Cali State Colleges to be placed is not worth the money? Of course we would be OOS so it may not be as cheap....

My sister is a professor at NYU and thinks it is not worth the tuition for undergrad, with the exception of Tisch.

UVA might be instate for you. But don't be fooled by the fact that UVA is a state uni.

That is often said about Harvard yet people donate millions for their kid to have the opportunity. Is she referring to the the education or the placement? Where did she go to college?

My DD is not interested in being in Charlottesville so UVA is off the table

If your DD is set on NYU, and NYU makes financial sense to your family (with or w/o FA), then NYU.

What are you talking about? Oberlin slightly under enrollment in 2017 and overenrolled last year.

https://oberlinreview.org/16469/news/college-passes-enrollment-goal-for-class-of-2022/

With a small class, getting the exact right number is tough.

Oberlin just extended its application deadline to increase its applicant pool. It also admitted 125 applicants of its waitlist for the class of 2022. As a PP stated it does not look good at all!

I find this very hard to believe. Must have had other credentials the schools deemed worthy of acceptance.

Meh, if you read the headline alone, elite schools such as Oberlin, UChicago, WashU all have extended. This could be simple as one school extending and others following suit so as not to disadvantage itself among peer institutions. I recall for the class of 2022, Oberlin's stats were squarely within top 5-10 SLACs in the country.
