Time for the basement/attic clean out.

+1 This is a brilliant idea! If they have proof that it was you, just say that you assumed it was a neighborhood dumpster and he was giving you all the go ahead to use it, since he chose to park it elsewhere in the neighborhood versus outside his own house.

+1000 When life hands you lemons make lemonade. Free dumpster, Op! Time to do some house cleaning and if you have any large tree limbs to take down you won't have to take them too far to get rid of them.

Exactly.

Yep, any large items need to go into that dumpster free of charge.

They live in a row house- how many large tree limbs are they likely to have?

You never know. It only takes one tree in the yard.

I've been complaining because our neighbors have a dumpster in their driveway and I don't like seeing it as I drive past everyday and I can't even see it from inside my house nor is it in any way affecting my life. So I'd be very annoyed in your case, op. I'd probably just let it go though and not say or do anything. Hopefully it'll only be a month. It seems like if you make a fuss about it or park in the way of the people trying to access it, etc it just may wind up backfiring and making him keep the dumpster there even longer.

+1 it’s annoying for sure, but the price we pay not to live in the exurbs

Brilliant idea. I love the Neighborhood Dumpster excuse.

it is easy in DC to do bulk pick up. just call and make an apt if you have stuff to go.

I honestly don't know how some of you guys can live with yourselves.

the dude has a valid reason, a permit, and a timeline for the dumpster. It is not ideal, but it is a part of life, and a part of City living.

those of you recommending stealing Services by using the dumpster, and whatever other passive aggressive acts that sound good in your head, need to back off.

one of these days, you may need a renovation and your contractor will tell you that the dumpster needs to be across the street and turn around is fair f****** play

And if he protests, then "Please move it in front of your place, since you will be the only one using it."

Sounds like DC needs to improve their dumpster process. We moved to London, there are dumpsters all over my neighborhood and they have cars parked right up to them on either side. They are smaller and need to be swapped out regularly with empty ones, the process takes about 5 minutes and no one needs to move their cars.

Well, you can still walk to all your errands, right? That is all that really matters.

Yep. And the important thing is at least those neighbors will have parking in front of their house for their guests.

Don't forget to fling your dog poo in it.

Jeez. Don't do that and NO smelly garbage either because then guess who starts having to live with the stink? Think, people, think!
