This is what I'd do, especially with kids.

That’s mature. Be neighborly. It’s a month.

Hell no.

He can put it in front of HIS house.

If you have young kids with gear and/or grocery who wants to find another spot. Our neighbors park their cars in front of our house when they have more than enough room in front of theirs. If someone parks in front of their house they call every neighbor ranting about it. We do park in front of their house sometimes and then they will temporarily move their cars but it gets really annoying not to park in front of our house. They make all kind of crazy reasons like the car has to face a specific direction because of water in it (but they got rid of that car), etc.

How is the dumpster guy being neighborly by doing this with no warning? That set the tone.

Here is the link: https://tops.ddot.dc.gov/DDOTPermitSystem/DDOTPermitOnline/OPA/OPA_Landing.aspx

He was required to post the signs 72 hours in advance. He needs to take pictures and submit them to DC.

I would tell him you are calling DC to understand the regulation. Take a picture of the signs and dumpsters today.

He has the option of moving the dumpster - of getting a fine from DC - his choice.

OP here. Weird that this thread moved from Off Topic to Real Estate... Anyway, I now that I think about it, I realize why he didn’t say anything about his plan to put the thing in front of my house. Of course I would have protested. So he just did it.

There is plenty of parking in front of his house. Use it.

OP, you do not own the parking spaces on the street in front of your house, do you?

Didn't think so.

Welcome to city living and get over yourself.

Don't be an ass and put your garbage in front of your neighbor's house.

We have one in front of our house at the moment (for our own project). The trucks do need a lot of room to slide them up and down on the truck, and also the dumpster has a door at the short end that swings open to load certain large items into it. He could be right about needing the maneuvering space.

Anyway, file an online complaint with the permitting office and an inspector will come by, usually within a day or two.

And why didn't his/her neighbor get over him/herself and put it in front of their own house?

Sounds like a good time for you to get rid of any old mattresses or other stuff you’ve got hanging around, OP.
