Priyanka Chopra dating Nick Jonas?

Two beards bearding.

I have a friend from high school (in the US) who is from a big Bollywood family who has talked about the intense homophobia in India in general and in Bollywood. She is a gorgeous never married woman who is in her mid thirties who was previously linked to Tom Hiddleston.

Also I agree that she hasn’t really made it in the US. I think it’s a combo of her age, her poor interviewing skills (she comes across as very arrogant and tone deaf), and her subpar acting abilities. Not entirely because she is south Asian. Mindy Kaling and Archie (can’t remember her last name) from the good wife are much more talented.

Nick is not hot to me....

Everything you just said +1,000.

Nick Jonas looks like a little troll. ESPECIALLY next to her.

Together they're so mis-matched that she was either desperate for relevance and/or couldn't get someone with a bigger name + hot looks on her arm so she settled.

What Nick needs to do is jump on that just-divorced Colton Haynes bandwagon.

I mean the first and ONLY (and awful) Indian representation of Indians/South Asians in Hollywood for years was Apu fromThe Simpsons.

It took time for black women to make it in Hollywood, then Hispanic women came into play and then east Asian women made it to the stage. She (and Mindy Kaling) have pulled down some of those barriers (even though she's in her 30s) for South Asian women and kudos to her for that.

Don't forget Parminder Nagra, who predates Priyanka and was (and is) on better shows. Thought I realize she is English, but of Indian descent.

And Archie Panjabi! I've loved her since The Good Wife. She's also British.
.

Can’t believe I didn’t add her, too. She is terrific!

In India, nearly all legal documents have a box for "third gender" and it has been this way for a long time-- over 20 years. That's a lot more than we have here. Transgender people can also label themselves to whichever sex they identify with without any gender change surgery.

Several states offer welfare benefits, free housing, pension plans and free sex reassignment surgery to transgender individuals.

Gay Pride parades have been going on for 10 years-- there are some European countries that still do not allow them.

There have been transgender mayors and MPs since early 2000s.

A 2017 poll showed that nearly 60% of Indians are in favor of same-sex marriage legislation, not bad for out of a billion people.

Every law against the rights of gay people in India came from invaders that believed homosexuality is a sin. Portuguese (Catholic), Mughals (Muslims) and during British Raj (Christian and Catholic) and their biggest fault is for keeping them on the books since their Independence but as the colonized minded generations are aging and dying out I hope this changes. Though, the percentage of those of Abrahamic religions is increasing so we'll see how it goes.

As far as gay in Bollywood goes-- there have been several good movies with good storylines around gay characters and they even have a dedicated gay film festival that's been going on every year since 2010

Yes, there are homophobic people in every country and culture in the world and LGBTQ have it harder there (and here and everywhere) but to state that it's "intense" in India (as opposed to here? Saudi Arabia?), not so much. It's a hard road with lots of work needed but no one is getting a legally sanctioned stoning to death for it.

I consider myself fairly in tune with pop culture (maybe I'm not) and I have hardly heard of her. Had no idea why she was at the royal wedding and, although I have heard of/seen plenty of commercials for Quantico, didn't know this person was on it. Regardless, they are a weird looking couple and this does seem like it was done for publicity.

Please stop Priyanka. You're starting to sound desperate.

NP here, I genuinely do not think she is that pretty - she looks like she's had a lot of work done.

Why do you think she could have had her pick of men? She's not made it big in the US, and her show just got cancelled.

Um, she's a former Miss World. One cancelled TV show doesn't mean she's a suddenly undesirable.

She's past her physical prime and her career seems washed up.

Not to mention that pic posted is 10 years old (when she was mid 20s). She is looking rough lately.

Please explain to me what Hollywood standards are, since her neck has disqualified her.

NP You really need this explained?

She’s had a ton done. She basically has an entirely different face; if you find pictures from her teens, she looks completely different.

Relax dude. I didn’t say that the homophobia there was any worse than here and the fact that she is continuing to beard here would suggest that it’s an issue both places. Also there’s a difference between being a big star and being able to participate in one film festival....

This is very informative. Thank you, PP!

The Post gave her a shout out this weekend for her acting in its review of the movie A Kid Like Jake.

Her star is on the rise. no doubt helped by her friendship with Meghan Markel. His star is long faded out. She can definitely do better.

And still you persist. Good for you.

Her show was cancelled. Attending the royal wedding is hardly going to help her acting career.
