WWYD - no invite

“Why would they not invite us?”
“They sent us a holiday card! Why would they send a card if they didn’t like us?”
“They just asked us to watch over their house while on vacation.”

I really don’t know why. No falling out. We are very friendly with them and have many mutual friends. We bring a nice bottle of wine - invite them over for drinks. But who knows?

Anyway, my husband doesn’t want to go to another party we have been invited to so I want to make staying in, building a nice fire, popping some champagne and cozying up with a nice movie night with the kids make for a fun way to ring in the new year.

Otherwise, I am just going to start drinking. Maybe starting at noon.

That’s in three minutes. [i]

I would start drinking now as well, but I only have one bottle of champagne and no food. Have to venture out and get more first. [/quote

Yes I know. I have the corkscrew ready... now!

Very weird. I'm thinking oversight. But smart to let them be embarrassed instead of you.

When will the kids go to sleep?

I think your plans sound nice...better than a party even.

It might not even be you. Maybe they made the party more focused on their kids and invited kids more kids' friends. Maybe it's more work focused or something.

If they say it's a small gathering, and it's a rager, you know where you stand.

NO, you cannot invite yourselves.

I will give you $20 if you guys just walk into the party like a boss! Arrive early and stay late. Just do it.

OP send a text about something pointless and gauge the response.

"Omg this is the coldest NYE I can ever remember."

See what the hostess says back and then judge.

A. "Yeah brrrrr!" She's politely blowing you off
B. "I know!! Hope everyone dresses warm tonight!" This is your in: "warm for what? We never got an invite, assumed the party wasn't happening this year!"

We know they’re hosting because a few friends said “See you there!” without realizing we didn’t get invited.

Can you ask one of the friends to ask the host?

This is the only way. Anything else is rude and presumptuous.

Are you people in high school?

You werent invited, don't go, find something else to do, get over it.

"Hey honey, we weren't invited, and they dont want us there, so let's go"
"soun great dear"

WTF

I agree the only real plan is to not go but cmon, I would also be curious about why I suddenly wasn't invited!

And Op you can't go to another party because they will think you didn't want to go to their party and you preferred the other. Any chance they learned of your other invitation and felt you had made that decision?

How can they ask you to house sit while they travel but not invite you when they're inviting other neighbors?

Maybe one spouse confessed during some pillow talk that they thought OP or OPs spouse was hot and they don't want any awkwardness, they are planning a private party for future date.

Point is why does OP care.

Did you snoop when you house-sat? Maybe they caught it on camera!

Text and ask to borrow milk or butter. Or if the found a glove you may have dropped while house sitting
