Maybe one spouse confessed during some pillow talk that they thought OP or OPs spouse was hot and they don't want any awkwardness, they are planning a private party for future date.

Point is why does OP care.

DW does NOT want a hot wife there, OP. DUH.

Ask them over for a drink at 8. They will ask if you forgot about the party. Or ignore you.

Our neighbors are like that. We don't mind at all. Doubt it was an oversight.
Anonymous
could it be because you start drinking at noon?
Anonymous
Sorry, it doesn't matter whether it was intentional or an oversight. No invite, no go, no fishing.

OP here. So all set to stay in with chilled champagne, warm fire, and two movies already kid-approve/ decided upon.

But I did have to reply that no, we did not snoop in their house, try on their clothes, check their medicine cabinets or flash the security cam while housesitting.

Happy New Year's to All.

Why WOULDN'T the OP care? I would. You invite me in previous years, send a Christmas card, ask to house sit but don't invite to the party this year? Come on. Most people would wonder.

Yes, thank you!

If everything is as you say, OP, and you are friendly, it would have been thoughtful for the party host to let you know that he/she is either not having a party or they are having a small party this year. Otherwise, I think you were not invited.

As awkward as this is, it will be much more awkward going forward.

Neighbor says to Op, "How was your New Years?"

"Great! Btw, I stole a few of your Prozac and used your vibrator while you were away. Let me know when your next vacation is."

If they say it's a small gathering, and it's a rager, you know where you stand.

OMG no you don't ask why you weren't invited. That is so rude and puts them in such an awkward spot. You are right, hubs is wrong. Find something else to do.

It's not asking why. They'll feel so awkward and embarrassed if they intended to invite youand didn't. If they meant to not invite, they know the awkwardness will come at some point.
