There is only so much money in the school system budget. It’s impossible to deal with the high WSOL numbers and also adequately provide resources for everything else.

Agree that this is exactly why Trump was elected. I did not vote for him but if he does keep his promises on curbing illegal immigration, then I would absolutely consider voting for him the next time.

The effects of illegal immigration are evident to me on a daily basis. Day in and day out. It’s more important to me than abortion (I’m pro-choice) and more important to me than many other issues that politicians focus on. Illegal immigration has affected me and my family in a way that some of those other issues have not.

Yes. I get dumped on when I mention this, but my elderly parents have lost half their home's equity due to the declining schools overrun with illegal immigrants. There are real, actual costs to American taxpayers when an area is over-populated with non-English speakers, and not just those who have kids who have to go to the public school.

And I agree with you on abortion. I'm pro-choice, since it doesn't impact me (or anyone else) when a woman terminates a pregnancy. But having schools where 45% of the kids are ESOL (some areas of northern Virginia, like Manasses, have this problem), it brings down the pace and complexity of classes. Schoolchildren in these areas are at a big disadvantage when compared to schools with lower ESOL percentages.

I don't really understand how you think this problem can be solved without investing more $$ in schools - which, yes, means more taxes. If your plan is to literally round up and deport every illegal immigrant, chances are you'll still be leaving behind a lot of kids (the lovely term 'anchor babies' that previous PP used - though most of those these days are Chinese and Russian, if you actually do your research) who still merit an education. Alternately, you'll leave (according to your 45% theory) nearly-half-empty schools, which will still cost money to maintain, heat/cool, etc., but with a lowered local tax base to support that. A closed school isn't any better for property values than one with *gasp* a lot of ESOL kids. The legal status or native language of the children are not the problem - a refusal of the local populace to pay enough taxes to maintain the necessary staffing ratios and provide the desired level of instruction is the problem.

Re: your parents' property values...unless they bought in the early oughts, I highly doubt their "loss" is real $$ and not just on paper. Can you name other, actual facets of your life in the DMV that have been negatively impacted by immigration?

We are complaining about high farm/esol schools taking all the resources, but my personal responsibility had me steer clear of those schools. Plenty of "good" schools out there. Move IB and problem solved.
My older kid is farm and my younger kid will probably put into esol.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, is an example of everything wrong with illegal immigration and the entitled liberal attitudes surrounding it.

1) First, this business about my not being responsible because I "let my parents sit and watch their value go down thanks to illegals moving into the neighborhood". Good example of liberals twisting things around and blaming the wrong person. Instead of questioning the liberal policies that allowed illegals to come in and overtake my parents' neighborhood, ruining the schools and halving the property values, I am blamed for not forcing my parents to move. (What do you mean I "let" my parents stay? Do you force your parents to do things?)

2)]She proudly admits that she was an illegal (twice! what, she returned illegally a second time?) and should, by her own admission, probably shouldn't be legal even now. Then, as if to flaunt her blatant disregard for our laws, brags (or perhaps taunts) how she has an older kid who is FARM (in other words, other people helping her support her child) and a younger will be probably be in ESOL. (Why ESOL? The PP apparently speaks English. Why doesn't her kid know it? IOW, she wants to avoid schools that illegals like her have caused.

Can't help noticing that the liberals on this thread refuse to condemn the exploiter who admitted she was here illegally, has her kids on FARM and ESOL - and then said she made sure the school her kids would attend were low in FARN/ESOL kids. I’m the PP who noted that nice SF homes are being rented to illegals who burden neighborhood schools. Regardless of our politics, I think all reasonable people can agree that illegal immigration has been detrimental to our schools and neighborhoods. FARMS and ESOL students require a lot of resources, which limits the amount left for everyone else. We need a to wake up and crack down. How are we letting people overstay visas, waltz across the border, come here to deliver anchor babies?

Of course principal and staff at the school are clearly amazing; but the fact is, teaching is only PART of their jobs these days. They're busy caring for these kids as if they are their own. If you don't see how that impacts education and our communities, then you are delusional. Send your kid to that school and let me know how much his education his impacted. Of course the fact that the school is over 75% farms and the fact that a good number of the students there are illegal immigrants impact public education and unfortunately the burden lays on just a few schools. YOu will never see this in the neighborhoods of McLean, Bethesda, Potomac, etc. Is that fair?

I recently witnessed segregation in my DD classroom. My kids are bilingual, literate in both languages.

I'm struggling to think of any neighborhoods in Fairfax where SFHs have lost half their value. If I look, for example, at some of the highest ESOL/FARMS school districts in Annandale, it looks like some houses are still about 20% below peak pre-recession prices, but have been rebounding over the past 4-5 years.

Do you have some kind of statistics to back up your statement? Teacher’s SAT scores? GPAs? Some other metric?
Because, my anecdotal evidence based on experience in teacher in FCPS for 30+ years says otherwise.

Annandale is more Asian. Look at the Hispanic areas in Springfield around Lynbrook.
