Her tours are successful because she is marketing to parents, as well as tweets and teens. She has always had a squeaky clean, I bake cookies with my girl squad image going. Anti-bullying message, etc. she is not Brittany Spears, or Lindsey Lohan. She is not going to flash the crowds getting out of a car without her underwear.
I can't control what my tween or young teen likes in terms of music. But I can control what concerts she goes to, and what concerts I take her to with friends. And her concerts have a lot of the under fifteen set coming in groups plus parents. |

PP and she is a genuinely nice person or she is well marketed to appear that way. No scandals. Her concerts have a positive message. I will take an 11 or 12 year old to her concerts because she is squeaky clean and scandal free. She is smart enough to know that if your market is young adults, the parents ultimately control the purse strings and decide whether to buy the concert tickets or the t-shirt. And tween-teen girls are her bread and butter. Maybe it is genuine. Maybe it is a marketing schtick. Either way, I want my money supporting someone modeling positive values and treating other people well. Rather than DUIs and rehab stints. That said, I do think she is going to need to evolve. It is a lot easier to be a relatable role model for teens and tweens at 20 than 35 or 40. She is going to need to grow up with her fans somehow. Right now, she seems to act very young for approaching 30. |

?? Really? Of all the singers in Hollywood, you're going to say that Taylor Swift is the one who can't sing & is living off her looks? She's not attractive by Hollywood standards at all, but she can in fact sing. The most unique angle she brings though is the song writing. A talented singer-songwriter is not so common nowadays, but she can do it and do it across multiple genres, plays multiple instruments, etc. She's a traditional musician in that sense. Her combination of talent is impressive. Her looks, however, are not. I say that not as a dis, because I'm happy to see a less attractive woman making it, but just as a fact. She's succeeding on her natural talent + her ability to adapt and acquire new talents. Notice her dance moves more prominently being featured in her newer videos? That's the result of hard work. |

She generated a cult style fanbase during her country phase. There was no one else who had a sound quite like her when she was doing country. She appealed to county lovers and haters alike. It definitely comes down to marketing though. She was singing catchy songs, had a signature style (which was then blond curls), was attractive...she capitalized this and then expanded her image by cultivating a quirky, lovable personality, doing a huge amount of charity type work (beyond just charity too - she showed up at fans' weddings, stuff like that), and became the face of feminism (albeit...white feminism).
She also has a lot of famous connections. Think of all the guys she dated. Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas, Harry Styles, etc...all big stars (particularly for the teenage girl cohort at the time) She's assembled a large group of celeb friends, too. Lorde, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, etc. Basically, she's the all around package. Looks, friendships, catchy music, personality...I'd be hard pressed to think of another celeb that fills all of this SO neatly. |
